I happen to have the opportunity to purchase this box at a fair price but the box is in fair shape. Came from a body shop and there was tons of over spray(isn't that what the paint booth is for). Due to the over spray the second owner hit it with a DA...and so it sits like that. Needs keys...asking 950, I was thinking of offering him $400-500.

I this is an upgrade from my set-up due to the deep draws BUT it is lacking a DRAW that is full length of the chest and not deep enough to hold my sockets and trays all in one draw. Is it possible to reconfigure the draw set-up or should I just keep looking?

$400 would be bang on Tops for a screwed up bottom of the line SnapOn. It wouldn't be worth that to me.

I wouldn't want anything but a KRL, but do what ya gotta do.

First thing to do is go on Ebay and do a search for KRA boxes. Used the completed tick box on the left so you can see what they "actually" sold for.

Then hunt boxes down on CL, which is what I guess you are doing.

I want to point out that the KRA boxes aren't much. A KRL is a lifetime box that if you do well buying a used one will always command some cash.

I bought a Brand new limited edition Top/Bottom boxset in Flawless never used condition with a matching roll around cart. Retail was $15K, I bought for $5000 and the guy drove 250 miles and delivered it.

If you are paying cash, you have the advantage, take your time and wait, it'll come. Look for KRL's with 28" deep drawers.

HINT: if there aren't massive springed casters, move on. I've seen KRL-1023 in that range of price.

Just my 2 cents

Thats A kr1000 not a kra1000 very heavy duty box. It looks like a really big project.

How can you be so sure it's a KRL? I've seen pix of the KRA's with those casters.

If it's a KRL 1000, it would be worth having, but it would need to be stripped down and primered and painted. Then I might give $400-500 for it as it sits.

If everything else about the box is good I would go $400, not sure I would feel comfortable any higher than that and anything else I find wrong with it will reduce the price
Cleaning boxes is a ton of work, cleaning, sanding, prepping, and painting is a bunch more work

Your time is worth something

It's just KR not Krl, it came out before krls. I have the same box you posted about (see my Sig) so I'm 100% sure its a kr1000 no latch slides, just plain old pull drawers.

A little over a month ago I saw a nice, original KR1000 go off at auction for a final bid of $850 ($1000 out the door).

I don't know how that box is "fair" condition. It's in poor condition.

A box with a repaint would struggle to be considered 'good' condition, and this box has hours of prep work before a repaint. It's sitting in a body shop, right beside the equipment and ongoing work. If it were easy, it would be painted by now.

Guys here talk about buying a high-end box because it costs them money if they take 20 minutes to un-stick a jammed drawer, or some similar crisis. Unless you were already planning on a custom paint job, I don't see how someone could consider this box over a ready-to-go used or new box.

What worries me is that those slides and the entire box could be filled with a mix of metal particles and abrasive dust from the "refinishing" job someone put on it. If you wanted a project I think this would be a good candidate.
