Hey everyone,

I've been looking around for a nice toolbox to use around the house/garage. HF, Extreme Tools, and Craftsman have been some of the options. I found this KRL on Craigslist listed for $900. It's about 5 years old and has normal use scratches and one dent on the side of the box. Other than that it's in nice shape. I'll have to remove the stickers (box was sticker bombed).

I talked to the seller and he was very up front and honest about the box. I was just torn with this and an Extreme two bay for around the same price. Also I'm not familiar with used prices on these because I don't see this model very often.

Any input/help would be great!

That is a heavy duty box, well worth 900 bucks. Get all the stickers off and wax it up and you will be glad you got it. Guys around here are paying 1600 bucks for roll carts.

That KRL box is much smaller than the two banks from HF, ET, or CM boxes (@ similar price). The KRL is in another class of its own regarding storage features (longer drawer depth and higher load capacity).

Rather than asking if that SO box is a good price, you should ask yourself, "What is it what you want out of a tool box?" .... then go from there

The SO might be a good deal but if you don't know what you want to do with the box, you'll turn around waste time trying to get rid of it to get another one.

In my opinion get the HF 44". You will have more fun buying tools with the extra cash.

The box you found is a nice box. If you really want it offer $750 and go from there.

I had a chance to buy one brand new from my dealer for $2000 which is slightly less then half off. As to which would store more, that 1056 will easily hold more then any 40" bottom. The smaller 756 or comparable classic 60 are about spot on to a 40" bottom in storage size. A 1056 is 4 1/2" deeper and a 4" drawer taller then 756. Overall a 1056 is 30 deeps compared to 18" of a normal 40".

I like those boxes, but I would offer $700 due to all those stickers and wear and tear he claims. But for $700 it would be a better buy then a HF 44" box and you would probably be happier in the long run.

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm just in the market for a decent box. Like I said it will just be for home use. I have a KRL1023 at work and love it. I figure if I can get a decent deal on the box I'd snag it up.

It would be nice to have something that'll last my lifetime. I'm sure a HF box would fit that bill for home use no problem. There's just so many options haha. Just not looking to spend a mint!

Just a heads up, you would have to buy two HF bottom boxes or a top and a bottom or a bottom and both sides to equal the in^2 storage space of that box. That box is something like 45" tall, 36" wide and 30" deep.

If it was in your budget I'd at least go check it out to see what it really looks like.

In that case, the 1056 would be ideal for you since the drawers are the exact same size as the middle drawers of a 1023. If you cut the middle section out of a 1023, what you have is a 1056. Once you get used to that depth, it's hard to go back to shallow drawers again.

I personaly cant see buying it. For the price you can get bigger, but not SO.
Yeah it'll last forever, but you will need to get all the stickers off, wax it, and i bet the slides have never been cleaned, and greased.
For $900 you could do bigger, and no extra effort.
We just dont know what size your working with(garage space).

But if you want to get it, and spend the hours on it, do it.

The guy said the 1056 has got a dent and scratches. This one looks perfect. Hell I'm just offering it out since I'm headed in his direction with the truck and could take it along.

I have a 756 and love it. I wish I could find a used 1056 near me. (se mo) there is NO comparing a hf box to one of these. just my 2 cents worth.

That is a completely different box, a little more than 1/2 the storage of the original posted box. Your linked box is a 18" deep box vs the 1st 30" deep box. I don't think the box you posted is that great of a deal at all IMHO.

You could be right, Idk what the OP is actually looking for so I threw it out there since I'm heading his direction Sunday and could take it along.

I do agree with you guys on how nice and deep the drawers are. Once you have something like that it's hard to go back to a shallow setup.

I was looking for something that's not going to take up a massive amount of space right now. We have a 2 car garage at the moment. I'd like the maximize storage without losing a whole wall in the garage haha.

The only thing that worries me is if the decals would leave some bad residue on that back ruining the paint. I wouldn't pay $900 for that box in that condition. Like stated it will need some love to remove the decals and clean it up.

The absolute most in^2 of storage space for the least amount of floor space taken up is going to be an industrial cabinet like a lista. Which basically the first box posted is like a half height lista cabinet dimension and storage wise. I wouldn't worry about the decals they can usually be taken care of pretty easily.

Just wanted to update a little bit. I had things set up to go down and look at that KRL1056 and never heard back from the fella. I'm still on the hunt!

Also, what would be similar to a KR661 these days? Would the depth close to what a "classic" series offers?

I'd be on that box like flies on poop. Or a pack of dogs on a crippled cat. The only box that would have me whipping out my wallet faster would be a KRL777.
