Snap On KRL vs KRA...Difference?

Ya I know...I need to get a Snap On catalog.

As I look at used tool boxes I am curious about the differences between the KRL and KRA...I think that is the premium and "regular" designations?

I see the cosemetic features of the KRL...but does it have heavier slides/metal/etc...or is it just the finishing.

Sorry if I am ignorant...I will eventually figure it out

P.S. What I am looking for is a base unti in about the 40" size. To be used in agrage for general purposes...and tool storeage. May get a top unit later.

I'm pretty sure the steel gage is the same; it's just that the KRA series are not as deep (front to back) as the KRL series. Also, the KRA doesn't have the fancy aluminum trim and the hub caps; which I could live without just fine.

I actually like the looks of the KRA...and if they are just a bit narrower that is OK too. But I would prefer the same guage metal and the same slides, etc.

I actually have no real "need" for a Snap On...just seem to "want" one. I guess it is a bit like our Harleys (mine and wife's)

P.S. There sure are lots of "special edition" Snap On tool boxes...and some unusual colors! I prefer the red. TMR

i believe the kra's are made in canada and the krl's are made in algona ia. other than that the kra's are generally smaller and follow the early snap on style hence the "classic" name.

Yep, that's the biggest difference. Last year I almost went with a KRA instead of KRL, but my SO guy gave me so many discounts and free tools on the KRL1022 I only paid $200 more.

I'm thinking from a manufacture's standpoint, it would be cheeper and less confusing to stock just one or two gages of sheet metal.

I had the notion bouncing around in my head that the KRA has non-ball-bearing drawer slides, but I can't say for sure where I heard that.
