I must have gotten lucky when I bought my KERP763A5PBO or my dealer gave me a hell of deal. My box was on the way to a tool show when I bought it I paid 12,550 then I traded in my KRL 7022 and got 1100 more then retail price when I bought it new a few years ago. Now they are listed for 13,490 even though I got a good price I want my lock n roll back.

How do dealers make money on box trade ins? It seems like dealers are always willing to give you a nice trade in if you are trading in the same brand of box. Are the margins higher or something on boxes so they can afford give up more? Or does SO allow the dealers a certain amount for trade in credits or something as an incentive to move the boxes?

I found my KRL1022 on craigslist, it was only slightly used. The guy lost his job and needed to liquidate, I was in the right place to help him out. My problem with the box is it is a rarer paint code not offered in the catalog so getting side cabs to go with it is tough.

There has to be a huge mark up on these boxes. I forgot I also got a 3/8 ratchet, 3/8 tech wrench and an Instinct screwdriver set plus another 900 dollar tool credit when I got my epiq. The funny part is I have bought two brand new Snap On boxes and I have had two Mac salesman start yelling at me that I never priced out a Mac box with them. I simply said the Mac box is not for me so I did not price one out. Also told them I do not tell them how to spend there money. The first Mac would not talk to me again when he stopped by and the other just will not stop by anymore. The field tech even owes him money and still not stop by. So I back to not having a Mac rep again so when I break something I just trade it in on SO truck. I would be curious to know what the mark up on boxes are.

That's a good question. What if you find these boxes on CL for 50% (or less) of their value and trade that in? Seems like you'd be better off than just buying one outright.

(And, Unsung, I bet even that HK avatar is illegal to possess in IL, huh?)

I've been told that the margins on boxes is not that great (30%) unless you preorder and buy what the manufactures put on special to the dealer. That's why you probably get your best deal on boxes he has in stock.

I have never figured out how they do such high trade ins except that you rarely get a killer deal (CL cheap) on a used box from a dealer. Plus the dealer will get you financed.

The Epiq series with the Power Tool side is nice, Saves a lot of space out of the drawers. I really like the lockers that go with the Epiq. 30x30x76 and the shelves are on slides. But they are $1000 more than the KRL1012s. My dealer said that he makes 25% on new tool box sales.

It is getting that way it sure seems. Unfortunately the country may be going that way too, let's hope for a positive ruling on the Chicago ban, otherwise bad things will happen.

Now back on topic.

I saw an old Classic box on my local SO truck this AM. It was a repo that had seen better days with some rust and such. It was maybe eight-ten drawers, I didn't get a model number but I was told it was about 20 years old. And a repo? That is some long term credit.

Anyway I've been looking for a used roll cab for general abuse and vise use and I figured he would quote me 400-600, nope 1000. Yikes. Too bad though I would have paid 600 but no more.
