Snap On KRL1023 vs KRL1032

Guys, I'd like to know your personal preference for a toolbox. I currently have a Snap On KRL 722 with a stainless and a patriotic skin (all custom. Guy bought it and couldn't make the payments so I have about $2200 in it). Anyway, I'm considering upgrading to one of the boxes in the description and I'd like your opinion. Would you prefer the 1023 (22 drawers) or the 1032 (12 drawers)?

I guess my main question is would you prefer many smaller drawers or fewer wide drawers? BTW, both boxes are identical exterior measurements, just the drawer arrangement and the cubic inches.

That would be a tough decision because they're basically the same box with different size drawers. It all comes down to whether you want medium size drawers with allot of little drawers, or great big wide drawers with a row of little drawers. I personally think the KRL1032 with the great big wide drawers would be awesome - but I can understand why some guys may not want that. One thing to keep in mind is the possibility that you may not always be able to open the wide drawers on the KRL1032 with one hand. You may have to use both hands for opening the drawer so the drawer doesn't rack side to side, unless you were able to get your hand centered exactly in the center of the drawer before pulling on it. Myself personally, I'd enjoy opening those big wide drawers with both hands, but I can see where some guys might find that too inconvenient. It all comes down to personal preference.

This kind of question is really such a personal thing, it comes down to what kind of work do
you do, what kind of tools do you have, and probably the most important thing.... Which one
do YOU like the best.

Personally I love lots of smaller drawers , so out of those three I would take the 1023.
I would think that having two 69" inch wide drawers to open all the time would start to get
quite old quite soon, and unless you have tools that are longer than 50" then I think that
50" drawers are the widest I would want to open and close on a regular basis.

Good luck, and post pics of youe decision..... and I'm not jelous at all... :D

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I'd recommend that you do an analysis. With that first write down what you would be storing in each drawer. Then cut out a piece of cardboard the size of the inside of each size of drawer, then layout the tools on the cardboard to determine if it will work for you as compared to what your intentions are. Nothing worse than buying a tool ox to then later find out that the tools will not fit in an efficient manner.

I went with the 1023 and never looked back, I work on big stuff so I have a lot of oversize tools and they all fit, I figure they would fit well in either one. Just gotta figure out which config will work for you. A lot of it has to do with your preference on seperating your tools. You will have to have dividers and stuff wit the 1032 to stay organized.

Are you the kinda guy that keeps all your electrical tools in a plastic box they came in or do you discard all the dunnage and just store the tool? Are you a flat rate mechanic at the toyota shop or working in a truck shop? Me I like lots of drawers as some have lots of small parts in them as well as tools. If you have precision measuring tools and such then your not going to want them to share a drawer with the C-clamps. If your a home shop then other things come into play. I think you should get the red one.

if you're happy with the drawer configuration in your KRL722 but just want a little more space, I'd go for the 1032 as it has basically the same drawer layout only bigger. I prefer 2 bank toolboxes so I guess I'm a bit biased.

Like the other said, it all comes down to how you like to organize. Personally myself I like groups of tools to all be together. Righ now with my 1022, I have wrenches in 4 different drawers, pilers across three and hammers in two. If I upgrade, it would go the 1032, but that is just me.

Pros and cons.

Big wide drawers: you only have to open 1 to get at a lot of tools. Easy to fit long tools. Can see many of your tools at once. But need dividers to keep from having a huge mess, can be heavy/awkward to open.

Many small drawers: easier to keep organized as different things can occupy one drawer each. Only need to open a small drawer to get what you want. But, if you forget which something is in, you're opening 10 drawers going "Where the hell did I put......"

My Gray Tools box has many small drawer which is exactly what I needed initially. Now that my tool selection has grown a lot, I'm looking at adding another roller cab with less number of wide drawers.

But also consider drawer height. Wide drawers are nice, but often deep drawers can be a waste of vertical space depending on what you're storing. Me? I'd pick the 1032.

I have a KRL1033 with the two full length drawers and I love it, and they are not hard or heavy to open as some may think they glide very easy, the only problem I have with haveing two full width drawers is if someone is standing next to it and I have to get a tool they have to move, because the whole drawer needs to open. other than that its great. Plenty of big drawers on either side. i like it because i can leave my tools in there cases or trays and still be able to close the drawers as needed. I traded my 1022 in on it, and it was slammed packed, I now have two almost 3 empty drawers now. I wasn't sure how ide like both big drawers but, i love them.

My 2 cents:
Unless you need to store some very long / light / bulky items, then those super wide drawers in the top of the 1032 will end up so loaded down that opening / closing will be work in itself. I have a 1022, and the top drawer full of sockets is about as far as I'd want to go, weight wise, for a drawer that I'm opening and closing many times a day.

I bought a 1023 for the extra drawers to organise my tools the way I wanted them done. Buy whatever configuration fits your needs as they are all good boxes.

Guys, thanks for all the input! I'll probably end up with the 1022 eventually. If I need more space, I can always add a side locker. Anyone know if I could use a hutch like Creeping-Death's with the side cabinet or am I limited to the width of the single roll cab?

If you even think there's a remote possibility that you'll need more space then what the 1022 has, don't get it. Side cabinets add complexity to the main box and if you ever want the box up against a wall, the side cabinet will run into the wall when you go to roll the box out. The 1023 will look allot better than a 1022 with a side cabinet on it. And if you ever did buy a side cabinet for the 1022, you then just spent the extra money that you could've used to buy the 1023 in the first place.

I have a Krl 1023 coming in any day now. But I sat down and figured out everything I would be storing in it and I decided to change some of the draw sizes. I'll post pic when it shows up>

I have a 1022 with the tall locker. I really like the configuration. The locker can fit quite a few plastic cases that would probably end up in a drawer on a 1023/32 and still hold lots of tools in the bottom drawers. I don't know why but I just can't get my head around the extra wide drawers on the 1032.

krl1023

i have one and i have yet to fill it up completely yet

the down side to the the 1032 and 1033 is the extra long drawers up only hold the same amount as th 1023 counterpart (same rails)

plus my coworker had the 1033 and opening and closing such a heavy drawer daily wasnt fun.

am happy with my 1023 its probably the last box i need to buy for a while actually
