Hey guys,
just got a good deal on a used Snap On KRL661 roll cab. I needed the upgrade in storage space, however the slides on the wide bottom drawer are shot. Called SO customer service and told them I purchased it second hand. They said the slides are not under warranty and my cost would be $83 plus $14 shipping.

That's a lot for one set of slides!

Does anyone know of an alternative slide company that would work perfectly in the box? Here's the part number just in case: 8-3388ALRS.

Just take a look at full extension cabinet slides. Lots of places have them. They may not fit 'perfectly', but are a lot cheaper. I just worked on an old snapon road box that was missing one slide on the bottom drawer. Unavailable from snapon but I found a pair online that fit after drilling two holes. That is a double walled box so no exterior holes visible.

Total cost: 8 bucks.

Length and thickness are the two key dimensions. The ones I replaced were 1/2" thick which is a somewhat standard for cabinets. Lucky for me.

After looking the website I'd say its a good possibility that Accuride is the maker of the slides. But the pricing is close to what SO's is. To the OP the slides in these boxes are designed to handle 100lb per drawer or more, which is why your seeing high cost. I know I've used the lower drawer in my 660 to reach up onto the shelf above my box and it has supported me and the contents in it without fail.

When I was doing facility maintenance for a bank, I used Accuride slides for the tellers coin drawers, my boss complained about the price until he found that the the Accuride slides were lasting much longer than the common drawer slides my predecessor had installed. With Accuride slides the job was a "Once and Done", there were no callbacks.

I have the same box, My SO rep was able to replace them for one of my shelves under warranty (Ball Bearing "Blow out") as I am original owner. I bought the box in 1998, the slide were replaced 2021. This box is the shorter depth compared to the ones you are able to get new today. I'm having trouble to find a good used matching top box. I belive the top box would be a krl 651?

lol I've finaggled slides out of snap-on before. You really mucked up that phone call. You just say "I've got this box with bad slides, can you help me out?" don't volunteer more information that necessary!
