I'm an auto tech and have been working out of a 26" Craftsman top & bottom with side cabinet for 15 years. This set does not have ball bearings but is made in the USA. I also have a Snap On roll cart. I'm out of room and have been looking at different options. I'll be the first to admit that while I own a lot of Snap On tools spending $1000's on a tool box has always seemed crazy to me. I recently sold a 4 wheeler I bought new in 99 that only had 170 miles on it and got top dollar out of it. It was a hard decision for me to sell it and I told myself that I would spend that money on something that I'll use. I feel the time is right to buy a USA made tool box and since I'm a Snap On guy I got a price from my dealer for a KRL722 that has the top on it with the bedliner coating. I was quoted $3000 plus tax. Regular price with top is $6265. Is this a good price or do all dealers have prices like this?

Before anyone says buy used I have been watching Craigslist for months and haven't seen anything worth while.

That's probably the best price you will ever find on a new KRL722. A lot of dealers have that price right now, it comes around occasionally as a sale from Snap-on corporate. You can't negotiate a price that low under normal circumstances, it's only possible when they go on sale.

You won't find a better deal on a 722 with stainless top. There might be a few blowout deals available here at the end of the year.

What are KRL722's like? I haven't seen any KRL box here in NZ to judge for myself. I am thinking about upgrading from my KRA4813 as it is full. The lack of deeper drawers on the banks worries me, for the chunkier tools so was also looking at KRL7022 and 1022. But it might not matter. Its hard to tell from catalogue pictures. Am currently looking though toolbox pics thread.

Thanks everyone. I'm getting a orange one delivered Friday when my dealer makes his weekly stop.

Now I'm realizing how expensive it's going to be for Ernst socket rails so I can organize the way I want.

$3K with tax is indeed the best deal you will find from a dealer. The cheapest I was ever able to get them was $2995 w/o the top.

Make sure you post pictures! Orange is my snap on colour, so if I get one it would be in that colour too.

Defy: pictures of my KRL722 are on page 244 of the Toolbox thread. Lukiep has a KRL722/791 combo and posted a few pages back (page 240). http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=466&page=244

Thanks!

A verdict, a TPMS3, AND a Vantage Pro? Nice!

FYI, that Vantage Pro is a "demo" model. They aren't supposed to be sold to the public and you can't warranty it if it breaks. The dealer who sold it to you will be able to update it at n/c to himself - the computer will recognize it as a demo when he hooks it up to his laptop.

That TPMS3 is a really nice tool, the only car that I was able to find it couldn't read was a VW Phaeton; the VW techs told me that the Phaeton design ***** and the factory tool won't read it either! When a Phaeton comes in with TPMS issues, they just replace all 4. You spend 110K plus on a VeeDub, you takes your chances I guess :)

thats an awesome price. i quoted one today with a snap on guy whos been a family friend for years and it was like 4500, he said to wait until year end and might be able to do better. that is simply an amazing deal, i almost bought a used one for that much. the steel is thicker and momre drawer capacity than a kra, masters series is the way to go!

Yes I know it's a demo, my snap on dealer sold it to me a few months ago. It was new in the box never used for $1500. He said it wouldn't be a problem updating or repairing if needed. He's been a dealer for over 20 years and I've seen him almost weekly for that long so I'm not going to question him. I have the receipt showing I bought it from a dealer if I need it.

BTW it's a SOLUS Ultra and I really like it. Had a MODIS for years and wanted to separate the scope from the scan tool. That's why I bought the Vantage Pro several months ago with the anticipation of trading the MODIS on the SOLUS Ultra. It's ultra fast, very light and uses no keys.

Is that the armour edge top?

Yes, I actually preferred the stainless top but my dealer ordered 4 boxes with this top at a special buy. I am starting to take a liking to it. Time will tell how well it will hold up.

I am also in Canada and I am just wondering how you were able to get even a price of $3600 on a box. When I got the price quoted I was told list at $5,29500

Is this a krl722 or a krl7022? Reason I ask is I haven't seen the fancy castors on a 722. Thanks
