Hey everyone,

A little back story on me first. I've been a frequent reader on garage journal for quite some time now and have finally today decided to become a member!! Anyways so about 6 years ago I started working in the construction industry doing maintenance and repairs on trucks and equipment, bought a special edition KRL7022 Snap-On box and proceeded to fill it up right away. We'll after a year and a half or so I got out of wrenching and and moved to the construction side as a heavy equipment operator. I kept my box and all my tools and took them home to my own garage for my own projects. Well, after an extended layoff this year due to lack of work availability, I've decided to get back into wrenching on diesels for a living.

So my question. I am pretty much at capacity in my KRL7022 roll cab, and once I find work in the industry I'd like to get a top box on it for more room. Does anyone have any experience with getting a custom painted box from SO to match one of the SE cabs? Im wondering if I'll be able to get a matching top for this box, I'm very OCD so matching is important. Otherwise I'll probably just buy a new box and keep this one for home, but I'd really like to put a top chest on if possible. Mine is gunmetal gray metallic with black corner trim red anodized drawer handles and carbon fiber drawer handle covers. I'll post a picture up ASAP as soon as I figure out how.

Sorry for the long winded post, and thanks in advance for any help!!

Here's a couple pictures of my box. Unfortunately terrible quality, they're old but they're the only ones I have and I don't feel like going outside right now lol.

**** dodge. I dunno if they'll match it otherwise if you wanted to use that one on worksite matching a top you could probably repaint both?

Thanks for the compliment on the truck! Unfortunately these pics are so old that truck actually caught on fire in 2012 [emoji853]. If I could get my hands on the black and red trim parts I suppose I could paint the top box to match myself, was just kinda hoping there was a possibility to have SO do it lol

I just went through a similar issue on the no longer offered Green Micah.

How old is it? I learned they have to paint "accessories" for a roller box to match for something like 8 years. (some legal thing, I believe -- consumer protection stuff). You Should be able to take the exact part number off that box (last 2 or 3 letters is the color code, if you didn't already know it) and order a top box to go with it using the same color code and they will build it. They likely won't have it on hand anywhere to ship you one this week, but the order should go through in 6 to 12 weeks or so it'll show up the right color. The only issue I think may still be a PITA is the special trim. It may have to be ordered as separate parts, but I'm not sure.

I can't recall perfectly but I'd guess I bought it brand new august 2011. Sounds like there is some hope, but I need to act soon. Thank you very much!!

That's an amazing color. It's my absolute favorite combo, gunmetal grey with red trim and carbon fiber. You can absolutely get it made. Your snapon guy can order it through his rock n roll rep.

Top Box:
KRL1201APTN
(10 drawer 29" deep KRL top chest with red and black trim in gunmetal gray)

https://store.snapon.com/Non-Catalog-Items-2BK-TC-GUN-MTL-W-BLK-RED-TRIM-P9755694.aspx

Carbon Fiber Drawer Trim
KACFCNRW - KRL Narrow Drawer (x5)
KACFCMED - KRL Medium Drawer (x5)

The carbon fiber drawer guards come in kevlar also which have more of a yellow hue. Make sure yours are just CF. I didn't find a specific set for any KRL top chests, only for roll cabs so you would order individual pieces as listed above.

BTW....look at your sticker on the back of your box and make sure your part number on the box is listed as a KRL7022APTN to verify same color/trim. If it isn't post what it is.

I would NOT say there's no chance of a deal and to be prepared to pay full-pop on everything you want.....It all depends on your dealer and how he is situated and the relationship you two have. I WOULD say it'll be tougher to get a good deal if he's a newbie / inexperienced dealer and / or he doesn't know ya and treats you poorly on pricing as he would some random guy who walks on the truck from the street and not a regular customer.

The other option -- if it all seem to much hassle or expense -- just tell him to work you trade in deal. Tell him how much box you want to get and tell him you'll place the order when the price is right....That's what I did with my last special edition box which no add-ons could be bought to fit since it was a special build / size roller. I still got the 7K or so I paid for it back on trade and moved on to bigger stuff.

I say yes its possible, but I would consider trading it for a larger roll cab instead. Like a triple bank 1023. I couldn't go back to not having room for parts and tools on top of box. just a thought

Yeah. He's right. It will fit the top box. A red flag popped up in my head when I first read his numbers, though. I had to back up and think about it for a minute when I thought about the 7xxx series boxes compared to any 1xxx box. I knew there was something whacky there and now that all this info is out there I remember my SE box issue with things not being the same height to add a locker -- the old 7xx (3 digits) series where shorter and narrower than the newer 7xxx (4 digits) rollers. But yours being a 7022 should be fine and could even add lockers or whatever.

I had to break out my catalog to check also but the KRL1201 is the 29"deep, 54"wide top box for both the KRL1022 and KRL7022. The 7022 is just one 4" drawer shorter. In fact this top box is the correct one for my KRL1001 also which was the predecessor to the 1022 before they went 2 full width drawers.

Me personally, I would add a side cabinet or two before considering a top box, but to each his own. Either way since the SO site shows the top box, if the "APTN" matches the OP's box I'm sure any side cabinet or locker could be ordered to match.
