I have the 2nd Snap On 18v Li-Ion battery died on me. the first one died last Dec. and I got a warranty replacement in Jan. everything worked fine till the first blizzard hit this winter and it's on the way back to Snap On, just right before the 1-year warranty ran out.

my garage never got below 30F and it's not really that cold outside either.

my Miluakee Lithium batteries are stored the same way and they are 3-4 years old, still going strong.

Lithium batteries no matter who makes them don't like the cold. But most of the time you can bring them inside and warm them up and then they will work and take a charge.

I keep all of my batteries in my basement (Dewalt, Snap On, Hilti, Milwaukee) that's about 50 degrees year round versus my unheated garage.

About the only thing worse than leaving batteries exposed to the elements as far as temps goes, is to leave them in a work truck year round.

I switched away from Milwaukee lin ion batteries to SO ni cad for the simple fact lin ion are useless in cold. Couldn't be happier. SO ni cads are long life and cold does not bother them at all.

Ha. All I've got is a tonnage of LION tools BUT cold weather & pretty decent storage times with NiCads were ++ I remember (even as I even from Nicads, Nimh, to Li)even to this today.

I baby all my batterys though.. Bring them indoors after Tday. If I don't plan to use them, I charge them to about 80 percent, yadda, yadda

the Milwaukee batteries, V18, are 4 years old and they have been kept in the same drawer with the brand new Snap On in my garage. the winters of this year and last year were warmer than the 2009 and 2010.

I've had no problems with the Milwaukee and laptop computer Lithium batteries.

just checked it's 42 degrees in the garage. my furnace is 5 feet from the tool box, it doesn't get too cold at all in Indianapolis anyways.

It doesn't take a fancy private school education Chemistry degree like I have to say that NO battery likes cold.

Basic physics gentlemen.

Lead acid generally doesn't mind the cold. :) But it's heavy and doesn't like being run down much.
