So I was on the truck a couple weeks back and checked out the snap-on lock-a-socket rails (LAS38MG). I really like the rails but they are a little on the expensive side $46 each and made in China. They look a lot like the mechanic time savers las38 with the addition of the hi-viz size marking tab, plus the MTS is made in the USA and half the price. Question is does anyone know if these are the same rails and if the hi-viz markers would fit on the MTS rails.

That is not the only source of the LAS rails. Sears Craftsman has them too. I know their 1/2" is a little shorter and holds a few less sockets. Not sure about 3/8 and 1/4. They are aluminum with magnetic back like the better MTS. MTS also makes a plastic, non magnetic rail with the same posts. Somebody else has the plastic version, too but my memory ain't what it used to be. Be forewarned, not all sockets work with these rails. Some sockets have the detent too deep in the socket to line up with the locking ball in the post so it cannot rotate. I have several sockets that will not work with MTS. They are aware of the problem. Their ad says " works with most sockets".

No, they are not the same rails and the size indicators from the Snap on Lock-A-Socket rails won't fit on the Mechanics Time Savers rails...I have tried. The rails are slightly different widths and on the Snap on rails one side is sloped. The socket posts are also a little different to accommodate the size indicators.

They are expensive. I have twist lock ones from Ernst and Snapon. I recently wanted to try the Snapon plain socket holders in orange and they are $30 plus dollars apiece. When they came in one tray had several broken prongs the other one had one prong cracked and just waiting to fall. I rethought getting them because for that amount of money for each they are way too flimsy. I’m going to stick with the twist version.

Thank you this is exactly what I was looking for. I thought MTS had a patent on the lock a socket rail and will everyone’s parts number roughly the same I was hoping they would work. Oh well
