snap on lock HELP

well caught my kid messing with my 1022 tool chest with the key. didn't think anything of it until now I'm locked out of my chest. the middle notched part of the lock is in between locks and unlocked.


can somehow show me how to fix this please

So the key is out and available? I'd squirt some graphite in there and work the key back in gently.

You will need a new lock first of all. The same issue happened to me once but luckily it was stuck unlocked. Give snap on a call, it is a warranty issue.

You cannot stick the key back in because the cylinder is stuck halfway between lock and unlock so you therefore cannot even insert the key, as the long part of the key is blocked now by the cylinder housing, if that makes sense. If you have a snap on key you know what I mean.

ok guys here is my ghetto fix.

the problem was not sure how my son did it but the key would no longer fit into the lock since the top the the key has this tab. the unlock and lock positions are where you can insert the key with the tab slot. happened that he moved the female portion of the tab of the lock in between the lock and unlock.

looking at it and needing access tonight, I just ground down the tab on the key on the outside of the key (the tab). the key now fits and allows me to turn.

I'll call and see if I can get another key but my spare works fine now along with the ghetto key. I can pull the lock assembly out with the spare since it still has the tab.

thanks for the input, in case anyone else gets locked out like I did, just grind down the tab on the key.

Nice, if you call up snap on, give them the number on the cylinder and they will send you a cylinder with 2 new keys. Then you'll have 3. The same thing happened to me, and I don't know how since i'm the only one in and out of it and it was at work, not home.
