these are essentially new other than the fact that they were installed at the factory and then removed to key all the boxes the same

A little secret. If you want them to be keyed the same, insert the key you want, and remove the cylinder from the barrel. Grind off the slide to be flush with the cylinder. Works like a charm. This is only if the cylinder is able to be removed.

One good thing about these locks is that the key stays in the lock. That can be useful, on occasion.

Are they shorter than the current locks? I have a drop front from the 70ies that needs a lock, but the current one is too long. If so, I am in for 1.

SO makes different size whatcha-ma-call-its -- the washer or ring that adjusts the lock in or out. That might help, if that's your problem. One is 3/16's and the other is wider. I'll try to find part no's if you need them. I don't think this is very clear, but it's late :)
