Snap-on low profile spark plug socket

Ordered this socket online - just received it and it doesn't properly interface with my normal 3/8" drive ratchets. There is no hole drilled in the drive side of the socket for the drive gear (ball) of the ratchet head to click into.

Is this socket meant to be used with the Snap-on low profile ratchet or something? That's the only thing I can think of.

The plug is supposed to stick out the back of those and you typically use an open end wrench. These are not designed to be used with a ratchet wrench.

Got it, that makes sense. I guess the product description saying "3/8" drive" is what threw me off.

If you really wanted to, you could put a 5/8 deep socket on top of the low profile one and put a ratchet on the deep socket just fine.

My 96 formula firebird with last gen LT1 with the "Optispark" taught me many ways to cut down a sparkplug socket and use a wrench to get to the god$$$* 2 under the brake booster. No cool tools around back then.

I still have and love it. It's a rare solid black hardtop so she launches very well without the t-top flex. She's also faster than the T/A's because she doesn't have all the underbody "aerodynamic" extra weight ****.

There was an old MAC flex head pass through set. It came out before 96.

The sockets (VRSS202 and VRSS262), when used with a 7/8” open end of a combination wrench, worked for jobs like this.

I used a 12pt socket on 6pt spark plugs… and nobody died and I didn’t even cry.

The square drive was probably an afterthought since there was a hole there already for the plug to pass thru. As stated above there is a spark plug sticking thru the hole during use so can't use a ratchet or extension on it.

I still have my 96 TA. The spark plugs were truly a PITA with stock exhaust manifolds.
