True. I bought a pair of Hobarts thinking that they'd be good to go. Could have bought the exact same Chinese pair from HF for half the price.

There are no USA made welpers that I know of. The best are Anchor brand, made in Japan.

I got the channellock, it's typically current day quality. I do wanna try out the wilde but them and channellock are pretty much neck and neck with what you get

The pic Epstien's has, if you look close they are dual marked with Channellock and Wilde. Just happened to notice. I have the Channelock and the Welper/Japan pliers, both do what is required of them, maybe slight edge to the Welper pliers since I have used them more at work, the Channelock are at home.

I have the Channellock welders pliers and they are decent but not great. Kinda crude machining and the cutter won’t cut wire at the back of the throat. You have to make a concerted effort to center the wire on the cutter which is annoying.

I upgraded to the Japanese Welper pliers and they are much higher quality. The cutter cuts correctly too. Took the Channellocks home.

My Channellock welding pliers (made in USA) mostly get used for doing u-joints, which I wind up working on more often than I mig weld.

The needle nose are pretty much ideal for removing / replacing retainer clips and when I get a cap to stick out the big round nozzle cutout makes quick work of wrestling them the rest of the way out all without having to grab a different tool. I use them for that often enough I've been asked where did I get my u-joint pliers more than once.

Why didn't you return them and swap them for another one? They're not all like that. I have 2 made by Channellock. They are both quite nice.

You could probably also use two small rocks, but... Welpers are set up to clean out the spatter from the nozzle, remove the nozzle, cut the wire to the proper length, remove the tip, etc. All in one tool.

Mine also don't cut at the back of the cutters. There is a gap.

I considered returning them but it felt like a petty complaint on an otherwise functional tool. The gap is just enough to not snip .035” solid wire. I figured a replacement would be the same way.
