Acquired these recently and just curious what in the heck is going on here. 1/2" drive gear in a 3/8" ratchet body.....3/8" in a 1/4" frame?

The Snap on Ratchets are FM70 and F720, Matco is AR6F.

^This. With some of the snap on ratchets you can put the larger drive into smaller bodies for tighter areas. You just need the right repair kit and face plate. You can also convert them back as the changes are not permanent

They do need rebuilding but am having a hard time finding a 1/2" or 3/8" repair kit with a gear that small to fit in the body. Would love to keep them as they are.

The Matco is probably made by Wright.

The Snap-on kits you want are RKRASF730 and RKRA70FMA. The latter might not be available anymore but I stuck it in ebay and there is a seller with a pile of new old stock kits if you want to spend a little markup.

The 1/2" is a bit rare since they never brought it back when they went to dual 80s.

The F720 is "supposed" to be a 3/8".

You can still get the 1/2" rebuild kit. I know because I mistakenly ordered the wrong kit for my F720 3/8" ratchet. The 1/2" rebuild kit had a born on date of Jan 2020. I got the 1/2" kit completely installed until I tried to put the cover plate on and had a facepalm moment.

They're only $10-11 from Snap-On.

Do you know the 1/2" kit to convert a f936?
