Snap-on metric hex bit sockets

Are Snap-on metric hex bit sockets which are yellow coated just a standard bit with some sort of coating, or are they hardened just like their yellow heavy duty removal torx bits?

I think that's just a coating, I don't think they are hardened like the HD torx, I don't have the HD torx' but I do have the hex sockets and some of them the gold color has worn off

Just a plating. They are some of the best hex sockets you can buy.

Standard bits are grey, metric are gold colored. It is for ease of identification.

The gold cadmium plating. Very thin, excellent corrosion resistance. It does wear off. Don't lick it. It's not good for you.
