Snap On MG725

What's the general consensus on the Snap On MG725? Local shop has on in pretty good shape, albeit in purple, with the plastic protective cover. I've been using an IR 235 and Titanium model 1/2" impact for the last few years, and thought I might upgrade to the Snap On. I know the Snap On is a bit larger than the Titanium, but it should offer a good deal more torque.

Any reason to avoid the impact? The shop also has a set of Snap On 1/2" drive deep well impact sockets in 10-19mm, so any suggestions on what would be a good price for the set? Any known issues with the MG725? Thanks!

It's big and heavy is the only downside. It's not my go to impact because of this unless I need the power. It removes pretty much whatever you want effortlessly.

That's kind of why I'd like to pick it up. It will likely even work well on the tractor implements, so I may make an offer.

What would be a fair price?

I have a few snappy guns. I like them. Negatives are the magnesium housing paint constantly chipping off and the lack of a power selector switch that's actually made to be turned by hand. People have hit/miss luck with the reliability of the sealed hammer housing as well....

If they want anything close to $200 keep in mind that's damn near the price of a brand new 2135TIMAX which has a similar power output.

I paid $400 brand new for mine. I'd say 200-300 would be the used selling price depending on how good of shape it was in. Anything under 200 would be a good deal. The purple ones are fairly new, came out early '11 I believe.

I had an IR Titanium and I loved it.... While working on cars. When I got my hands on the Snap-On MG725 I thought it was the best gun ever. I even bought the lighter weight but still almost as powerful 3/8 gun. They hold up really well and have great power.

I also favor the Snappy guns because they have a 'trigger brake'. Basically, they dont keep spinning when you let off the trigger like the IR guns do. I use swivel sockets a lot for what I do and I like it better instead of the bolts flying off somewhere, or me not having to hold the IR in the same spot til it stops spinning.

I paid over 400.00 new.. Worth it though.

I've said this time after time. The mg725 has a very slight edge on power over the 2135timax, but the chances of that making a difference on whatever fastener you are working on will be once in a blue moon. Whereas you will feel the extra weight and bulkiness EVERYTIME you use it. The snappy has an anvil stop feature which is kinda neat.

I'm going to have to agree with this. I have both and the MG725 power advantage is not as big as most people make it seem to be. If you can't remove a bolt with the 2135timax, then chances are, the MG725 won't remove it effortlessly. It only seems more powerful because it's loud as heck. I'm down to just two MG725, but both are becoming my loaner guns because they've dropped in power. They're still powerful, but not as consistent as my 2135QTiMax.

Well, I picked up the MG725 today. I was able to get it and a set of Snap On #310SIMMYA 10-19mm impact sockets for $210 out the door. I was hoping to get everything for $200, but I don't think that's a terrible price considering the MG725 is $459 new and the sockets go for another $230.

I played around with it in the shop for a little while, and you guys aren't joking...its a loud SOB. Not unbearable, of course, but certainly louder than any of my other impacts. As far as the size is concerned, its really no bulkier or heavier than my IR 231G, but definitely larger than my IR Titanium 1/2" impact.

I'll probably never get to really test it out on normal vehicles, but it will be nice to have just in case I run into a truly stubborn nut!
