I was wondering if anyone knew of any problems with the original Modis from ******** and how to fix them. I recently got mine for $500 American green backs.

As with all expensive tools sold cheap there are issues with it but, I am sure I can fix the ones I have but, it left me wondering if there are more/common problems and if anyone has seen any repair tutorials for the actual tool itself.

If you bought a broken modis for $500 you got ripped off. A broken one is worth whatever you can get in parts. They sell all day on ebay working with reasonably up to date catalogs for $750-$1000.

I will say that the plastic cases they used on the Modis, Vantage, Solus etc.. are garbage. They all break down and begin to split apart around after some years, even if they aren't dropped. If it makes noise when you shake it, its an excellent chance its pieces of the housing.

Leaving the battery in and not shutting it off too.It is PC based, you have to shut it off properly and take the battery out when not in use.

I heard the old modis was very slow when they would work it could do a lot back 15 years ago

There are a lot better scanners out there like launch and autel or a solus ultra is great for most repairs

There have been issues with the displays. But, the display can probably be repaired without sending it to Snap On. I do not believe it would be worth sending it in for any repairs at it's age now. Just a few days ago, a man on iATN repaired his screen his self.

A tip I learned the hard way, if you are using the scope, be SURE it is not plugged into the AC port. Use the battery. Can cause screwy signals.

The tip above by wafrederick is spot on also, in my opinion.
