I would bet that a SO salesman bought a pile of these or split up a bunch of assortments that he got at a bulk buy. I just bought a pair of 388CF High leverage side cutters for $15.00 off Ebay from a link on GJ. I'm not going to complain.

Personally I have no use for needle nose pliers without a wire cutter. I really like the Knipex 6 1/4" electrical pliers.

I thought it was odd too. Here is the old thread, seller before was in Apex, NC. Now an hour or so west in High Point, NC is this one.

I looked in my ebay feedback to see if it was the same seller; either it wasn't or they didn't leave feedback. The listing is too old for me to see when I bought them if it was the same. It is the same pliers though, 597CF

Never have been a snap on worshipper but bought these last time, they work great and you don't have to take a mortgage out to buy them. They are the best needle nose I have now for removing snap rings with tabs and such things.

Must have been a large lot of them that ended up in the closeout market in that area. I recently paid $12.99 for a pair of them at a closeout store in Lexington, NC.

Could be some kind of shipping damage auction. When items are lost or damaged in shipping and the insurance pays off, the goods go to auction without much if any control by the sender.

That's my suspicion. A truck probably got turned over or something. That's a lot of what the store I bought them from deals in.

Do you think soaking some WD-40 would help? Or do you think there's perhaps a defect in the pivot joint? Had a problem like that with a WF craftsman plier set once...

well, i got mine today too... my first Snap-On pliers, but meh... doesn't seem like anything special other than having the pin groove? almost feels like a slightly better than HFT plier, WTF? I guess I'm not impressed compared to Knipex or Tsunoda Power pliers... glad i didn't pay full price.

rec'd my 2 pair today - 1st 'new' SO pliers and 1st 'talons'.

jaws appear to have much better than average machining/alignment

metal finish is unremarkable
what in the world is the grip coating?

pivot joints have issues - 1 is way too tight, the other is not quite as bad but feels like it was assembled on a very sandy beach - perhaps an extended session(s) w/some PB Blaster or DuPont liquid teflon stuff will loosen'em enough to not be a pita??

Used mine today. The serrations on the jaws grip very nicely... used 'em for pinching a split washer back together (in limited space) in a vise I was re-assembling.
