Hi to all,
I picked up an older ratchet at a garage sale for a buck. I guessed it is worth more since it said Snap-on. I have googled it and discovered some info but I need to know where on the tool is the Snap-on date code located.

Thanks for your help!

John

It may not have one. If it does I think it is under the selector switch.

The date code is usually the style of the letters. Try doing a search and you should be able to find the code sheet.

As Roy alluded to, the date code is usually between the ON and OFF mark where the selector switch flips back and forth in that recess on the head. The -M is an odd duck, though. For some unknown reason it has the "ON-OFF" indication marking on the shank, not in the recess itself where the selector switch actually flips back and forth. And I don't think they're date-coded. I believe they made those from immediate post-war through the late 50's/early 60's. snapmom or someone may know better.

I asked a SO dealer about mine and he said they were sold under a govt contract and have no kits or warranty. I bought one the same way thinking it should have worth, they sell for about $15 on ebay and are very course toothed and rough on the hands, not a user at least for me.

you may find the date code next to the U.S.A. marking on your ratchet's handle.

My first 1/2" drive ratchet was one of those. I bought it in about 1954. Can't help with markings as I traded it in on a long arm ratchet in 1962.
