Yeah, saw a Snap-on retractable drop light at Costco Friday. Made in USA... try again, I want to say I remember it saying Indonesia. Not the Snap-On I remember growing up with. Waiting to see them at Wal-Mart, then on to HF next.

$90 for a "tactical" flashlight? No thanks...I'll stick to Surefire....cheaper, no doubt better, and made in the USA right here in Fountain Valley, California.

You should take a look at all the chinese junk they are selling for the month of X-mas in gifts under x-amount of dollars. Makes a person wonder who is in charge of the company?

I said the same thing about RP tools going to china

The real question is when the rest of the SO tools are going to be produced in China. It will happen; it's just a matter of when.

Thats hard to say if ever, but we can be sure that China will be producing some top grade items in a number of categories within 5 years or less. I suspect it will start with more complex items, video games, maybe consumer appliances, power tools, with high quality hand tools maybe the last area, based on cost of infrastructure and potential profits.

I've seen what is probably that same light at Ace Hardware. I didn't look for the COO. I think it was $69.95. I did pick up a couple of 'Snap On' branded flashlights at Ace a few years ago for $9.99 each on sale, those are actually pretty nice, of maglight type quality.......but there is no COO to be found on it.

Snap-on reusable briefs! Brilliant! I mean who wants to have to get out from under the car for a potty break when you have just a few more minutes to go on the job!

Those Snap-On gift sets- I heard from an instructor of mine that SO is never going to do that again and the marketing guy behind that whole scheme got into some trouble over it.

The guy bullshits sometimes, but I dunno.

Eons ago, Sears carried Matco tool boxes. I don't think it lasted very long, this was right before they brought out the Industrial Series. I found this out talking to a longtime Sears hardware salesman back when I worked there. He said they were supposed to be special order only but the Sears in Lexington did have one on display. He said lots of people oohed and aahed over it and then abruptly lost interest when told how much it cost at full list and that Sears doesn't take trade ins or cut deals. He said it was a really nice box and was saving up to buy it with his employee discount when the deal with Matco fell through.

I bought a snap on putty knife at Northern Tool for $7. COO was Taiwan. I was surprised to see a Snap On Licensed product that was not of the flashlight / air hose / vacuum but rather an actual hand tool. Kinda see that as direct competition against the trucks, which I don't so much think the flashlight / airhose / etc ******** is.

Where I used to work (The Andersons in central Ohio) We carried "Snap-On" tools for about a year. We had flashlights. knives. knife sharpeners. key-chains all kinds of stuff with the "Snap-On" logo and "official Snap-On quality"

Had a guy one time buy up all the knife, keychain, and flashlight sets tell me "these are the best flashlights you can buy! and its from Snap-On" I then proceed to argue with him that they were not in fact the best flashlights ever made and that they were little more than a maglight. hell they arent even made in the US for pete sakes! The argument continued with him telling me that they are rated at 4w so i asked what the equivalent in lumins was and he then had a dumbfounded look on his face.

Just goes to show, you sell off your name to a company, they slap it on there product and people go mad over it.

I have seen such "trinkits" out here in Boomgars, Murdoch's, Menards and Wal-Fart. I won't buy the name, only the quality. Also, I thought Mac tools is owned by China? If so then they already have the quality hand tools eh?

All the truck brands now have their own value product lines: Snap-On/Blue Point, Matco/Silver Eagle, Mac/Edge, Cornwell/Blue Power. Why can't they reserve the brand name for the good USA stuff and let the cheapo use the value name? This way, everyone would get what they want and there would be less confusion, also they wouldn't lose respect.

My grandfather used to say about companies: "They started trading on their name". I never understood this as a kid, but selling your very name/brand/icon is awfully low.

I got a fake SO trouble light for home and I am happy with, it's use more as an extension cord then anything. I would buy a real one for work if I used corded lights there, but not for home where I eat more meals on my bench then work. I do not have a real big problem with this stuff as long as I'm not buying off the truck for truck price. I bought a new jumper pack this fall from SO. I liked the specs and at $260 wasn't badly price compared to the others I looked at. It's chicom so is this the start? What would really piss me off if chicom SO wrench sets start appearing for $30.
