Snap-on Octo Grip STP-5

Came across this Snap-on tool and can find no information on it. Hoping you can shed some light on it. It has what seems to be a test lamp, held in place by two springs, in the handle...the tension is supplied by a threaded plastic slotted plug/set screw at the end of the handle. Is this a circuit tester without the lead?
Stamped on the handle is:
Snap-on, Octo•Grip STP-5

The neon tube will light with application of AC. Seems odd for a Snap-on tool.

It was used to check the HV end of the ignition system. Hold the blade against an ignition wire and the tube lights when the plug fires.

Does Snap-on still sell a tool like this, and should the neon tube fail are there replacements availible? I would quess, that something this old would be superseded by newer technology...
I suppose it is the bug in me to want to restore to working order, even if the tool just sits in the tool box.

It may well still work. Just hold the tip against a firing plug wire. I don't recall seeing in SO's catalog in a long while.

I have a similar tool looks like a pen but has the neon bulb in the barrel. It was sold by Champion (part # CT436). There are some listed on ebay for about 10.00. The bulb may well interchange with yours if it doesn't work.

You have a really nice piece. I have a soft spot for the Par V stuff and never seen another.

Snap on had a couple in the 2000's with a clear comfort grip handle, SDD214, and a larger version, SDTP5 I think was the number.
They still offer the SDD214
