Snap On oddball special ratchet wrench with socket

This 13-1/2" brute was mixed in a box of miscellaneous rusty stuff at the local used tool store. It had some heavy rust damage and caked on decades old grease in the head.

Cleaned it up some but there's permanent scarring. I since oiled it all up and it ratchets great.

The wrench is a 7/8" opening marked N6890

The 6 point socket is 1-1/16" marked N6889

Surprisingly no date stamp on the socket and if there was one on the wrench it's lost now.

Probably a dumb question but what exactly is a scaffolding ratchet? Reason I ask is I have a very similar ratchet that has 2 universal joints in it.Here is a pic of mine(don't mean to hijack;just curious)

I know it's used for the scaffolding frames and that's about it. Not real rare actually. Your multi flex one is a first I have seen however.

I do know yours is an alignment wrench. They made flex and straight.

All the 1/2" drive scaffold ratchets have a 7/8" socket attached. The one I posted has a
1-1/16" socket. Do they use hardware that size too?

Thanks for the info;someone had told me that was it's purpose awhile back so I appreciate the confirmation.I find that it works very nicely in removing the lug nuts on my vintage Pontiac wagon.Price was right to;paid $15 at a flea market a couple years ago.

Hmm further research not so sure 3Bay's is a scaffold ratchet. No luck finding either of those numbers. Snap On made sockets with a 7/8 male drive sockets up to 15/16 for the dual flex ratchet posted above. Tag someone else LOL!

Most of the "N" models were industrial specials. A lot of railroad tools have the N prefix. Not sure what this one was for.

snapmom thanks for the input, another mystery special! I've don't recall seeing such a large wrench that's based on the old single end ratchet wrenches but set up like an alignment wrench.

Bluebolt Every scaffold one I've seen is an actual "ratchet" ratchet.

Safariknut Good deal you got there. Sorry,I miss-spoke earlier when I said straight and flex types. I meant to say flex, double flex like yours, and then there's the crowfoot type you can put a breaker bar on. They all take the same sockets. I have the three but didn't even realize this was the same size until you brought it up. Maybe this was for some under car work. Thanks!

Bluebolt Every scaffold one I've seen is an actual "ratchet" ratchet.

There are some that look like yours but usually have a pointed end for aligning holes. In any case yours is not a scaffold ratchet.

I also believe it is an alignment wrench used to set caster and camber.

Many years ago, we used the exact same tool to operate our "ball droppers".

It's an alignment / cast / camber tool. A scaffold ratchet has a rubber mallet on the reverse side from the socket, like this.
