I've got a set of oex part number snap on wrenches that I cannot find any date marks on.. The matching set of metric wrenches were dated 1984. How can I date these wrenches with no date codes?

I've noticed this too. I also have some older OEX wrenches without a date code. I have also seen other examples. I wonder if they went through a period during which they discontinued date codes.

Just seems strange all my other snap on tools have date marks but this set does not... 3/8 to 1 1/4 set with no date marks..

Did the discontinuation of date codes coincide with the change from Blue Point to Snap-on?

Did all the wrench patterns, OE, DBE, combination, change at the same time?

Reason I ask is I've got sets of industrial finish wrenches sold at the same time in the late '60s or early '70s and the OE and combinations are later pattern, but the DBEs are the earlier stamped shank pattern. Alloy artifacts doesn't seem to have photos of this style shank on the DBE, so here's an OE for illustration.

When would the change to smooth shank DBE have occurred?
