Since I work in IT, I dont have a snap on truck coming to my work. So I have to buy my snap-on tools online. I'm I missing out on deals and pricing?

Thanks

Yes. Dealers get special combo deals and other deals that are not offered on the web.

Are dealers required to honor the online pricing on the Snap-On website? My day off is on the day my Snap-On dealer comes to the shop so I can't ask him directly.

They do not like to hear that you will take your money somewhere else, call customer service, they will get you in touch with a dealer.

Thanks.. I will do that. I did fill out online that I wanted a deal to get in touch with me. So far no one has called me. I'm sure dealers don't want a home user that is not buying something every week.

You would be surprised. They are very happy to sell tools to people who dont work in shops. Im not sure how closely that the online form is monitored. If you call in, they will contact the dealer or maybe give you his phone number.

That doesnt mean a dealer wants to hear from you. I've had guys blow me off without even talking to me. I've noticed dealers shun email too for whatever reason though thats in my area and the two dealers in question have been in business for quite awhile so perhaps they just dont want to get with the times.

One plus to buying online is you have everything recorded as far as proof of purchase goes.

I don't have a dealer but what I do is keep a running list with me. When I pass buy one I stop in and get a business card or phone number. Mostly in order to met the the dealer and see if I'm willing to deal with him.

Some dealers are much nicer then the others and I make a note of that.

It's faster to go to a new car dealership and ask one of the mechanics which day the truck comes by. The trucks don't always go to the two man shop, but they usually always go to a new car dealership. If you happen to see a truck out in town, they usually have the driver's name and cell number on the side of the truck.

keep in mind the specific items you want might not be any kind of deal or promo ever. some of the stuff is a couple bucks off. not all the dealers do the promos either. they have a choice.

if you want something soon, just order it online, it should ship from crystal lake and be at your address in a day

i work at a new car dealership and the driver wont stop at our shop, so I have been ordering online when I need something

Unless it is a tool that can only be had from Snap-On, buy it from another supplier. I don't get it. Why should you have to chase down a dealer & go in hat in hand to get them to sell to you? They for the most part act like they are doing us a favor to sell to us as a one time customer. There are lots of things in the world that get fixed without Snap On tools. Take your money where it's wanted.

Maybe I am just lucky to live in a town that has very proactive drivers from all four tool truck companies. I do not work in the automotive industry, but I do work for a company that manufactures stuff (photo and comms for the defense industry). Myself and several others at work have a bunch of tool truck brand tools at our home shops. I don't know, maybe every other month someone will call one of the trucks for a stop at the office and they always come within a week. I have even had a couple of trucks come to my house. I hear everyones complaints about the tool trucks, but honestly I just don't see it. I will add that I always make it a point to buy something off the truck whenever I have called for it to come by for warranty purposes. Seems to work for me and the guys at work.

Question for the guys that work in the smaller automotive shops that say the trucks don't stop by. Have any of you called any of the tool trucks and asked them to stop by your shop because you had requirements ( either new sales or warranty)?

What I would do is just call the closest Auto shop to your Home or neighborhood and ask them for the SO Guy's info. Then contact him directly and boom, you'll already be in his territory and hopefully he is a cool cat :pimpflash

+1... a small shop will probably know the guy, and have his info. And if they're decent guys, they can probably tell you if their dealer is cool to deal with, or if he's one of the "I don't need your piddly money" types. The shop I work at has an awesome Snappy guy, the shop at the other end of the building has one of the latter types, and you'd get a different recommendation depending on which shop you asked. :D

Our guy was delivering a toolbox to a dealer tech with my trailer yesterday, and also bringing a couple tools to meet with cash customers there.

i work at a shop but we dont have a snapon guy yet because we are relocating and dont wanna set up a time with a guy yet only to have to repeat the process again in a month or 2. anyways i stopped by a firestone on way home when i saw the snapon guy was there because i needed some 3/8 metric sockets. walked up to the truck knocked on teh side and the guy came out and in a mean *** voice said "What do you want", told him and he drilled me about how i worked for, where, why we didnt already have a dealer... after answering all his questions he told me he was too busy and id to call him at a different time to set up a meeting with him on a sunday. even though i told him i know exactly what i want and have cash. needless to say im not buying anything from him and all my money will now go to his buddy instead of in his pocket

Some of those mobile tool distributors can be real cranky...

Still sounds like I'm better off buying online. I'm not going to buy every week, to get any freebies, buy one get something half off, etc..

Unless you need to actually touch the tool before buying it, then yes, buying online is a lot more convenient.

I don't think you're missing any spectacular deals. From what I've seen the best dealer deals are boxes as part of trade show promos.

Just save the gas and hassle and buy online. The internet doesn't have a 'tude like some dealers.

Dealers are really only worthwhile for ease of warranty, financing and showing up at your site. If you don't fully utilize those three benefits then go online. At least your purchase history will be archived.
