Both of those would be good selections. I am prejudice in my vote though.

Here is why.003.jpg

How do you like your tech1000? any trouble with it? I like that the drawers are almost 6" deeper. I like the snap on because of the top box.

Never had any trouble with it. I have had it just about 5 yrs. I bought a cover off eBay for it. Here it is.001.jpg

I have found that it is easy to move around, and that it compares to Snap on and Matco boxes.

Just going off what I've read on the forums I'd go with the Mac box as my first choice. It's a deeper box, has wider, larger drawers, and as you noted seems to be built a little bit better.

Not knocking Snap-On boxes (I own a KRL) but in the lower line boxes Mac seems to have the edge.

You can always add a top chest but you can't make shallow drawers deeper or skinny drawers wider!

Snapon is what I own, but if I could have gotten a steal of a deal on a Mac. I'd have gotten one. But if price is close, go with Snapon.

ooh... I just saw you're looking at a KRA. in which case I think the Mac is better bang for the buck. Snapons' don't get really good until the KRL line.. which is King IMHO.

a couple of videos to watch (from a snapon perspective)

Those are great videos, they're all KRL line and Epiq, way out of his price range. He's in the market for a KRA, and they're all KRL and above... Snapon takes their lower line for granted in my humble opinion since they focus all their marketing and engineering on their high line, which is why I told him that the Mac might be a better toolbox for the money.

Mac always has better boxes IMO in the 1k to 4k range. Some of the lower range snap on boxes are just flimsy I have a classic 78 in the shop and a KRA5311FPC. They are both flimsy as hell compared to mac, and matco boxes I see in the same price range.

Like the others have said for that price the Mac is going to be the better box.

I will say that MAC boxes have been looking a lot more interesting to me since they do seem to be a bit better built for the money that Snap On's lower line covers.

I have a tech 1000, love it!
I've had drawers out of mine, they aren't hard to replace. Just needed someone to help hold up the big drawer. It's been a few years, but IIRC there were 2 or 3 screws that held the slide to the drawer, and 2 or 3 that held it to the box.
And as other have said, I also think it's a much more solid box than a KRA.

I accually have the snap on one i was looking to get the mac one. THe mac dealer had a used one he would trade me. He wanted my box and $500. WHen i went to look at the tech1000 he had a sweet almost new snap on ct6850 impact and light so i bought that instead for $375. I figured there was really nothing wrong with my box, and more tools are better then a slightly better box.
