I just got a like new snap on palmrat from ebay.

It felt a bit dry, so I took it apart to clean it. Unfortunately I dropped the ball:sad:

Are they a standard size that I will be able to get a replacement for - the rest of the mechanism is like new.

Also what sort of oil should I use on it?

Thanks
Paul

If it's the original black hard plastic three sided palm ratchet the ball is much smaller than a standard ratchet and SO doesn't seem to have kits for them. The newer ones also use a smaller ball than a standard 3/8 ratchet. Not sure if kits are available for these.

SO uses SuperLube and supplies a small tube in the rebuild kits.

Well the ball stayed in the recess when I removed the metal housing, it was only when I put it back in that it pinged out.
I only have metric drills but a 2mm drill fits through the hole but a 2.5mm drill doesn't. I am guessing that the ball is a 3/32 as I would be amazed if Snap On didn't use common bearing sizes.
If that size ball is correct, is there an alternative type of lube as I don't have a snap on rebuild kit?

Thanks
Paul

If Snap-On doesn't have a rebuild kit and you need a ball, look at various toys at the dollar store. Some of the toys have ball bearings that you wiggle the game around to try and get the balls into the holes. Most of these are hardened steel balls. Also if you have any old bearings lying around (small roller bearings) take a die grinder and split the bearing to rob the steel balls out of it.

It's always a good idea to keep various sizes of balls on hand for different uses and they are free to come by just by getting them out of worn bearings.
