Hey guys, So today I picked up a Snap On PD3A for 5 bucks. The guy wasn't sure if It ran or not and had it just laying in a pile of tools, and I figured for 5 bucks, It would at a minimum make a cool paper weight.

I take it home and hook it up to the compressor, and runs great. I do have some questions however. As this is my first pneumatic air drill, (I have always used cordless drills), I'm wondering a few things. First of which, like all tools I acquire used, How do I get it apart and oiled? I've been scourging the web and can't seem to find a thread or video showing how to take it apart.

Second of which, It came with a boot that was well used and needed to be replaced. I couldn't find the exact replacement for this drill, But snap on has the replacement for the reversible model, (PDR3A). If anyone has personal experience with both, are they the same thing?

Also, what is the purpose of the cotton like stuff in the exhaust port of the gun?

Thanks yall.

Oil in a pneumatic tool goes in the air port. Put a few drops in (or a bunch more if the tool is new to you, and you think it really needs it), and run it.

Anything like foam or stuffing in the exhaust is to prevent it from spitting out oil, and to muffle sound.

Thanks. So is there no need for me to take the entire thing apart to clean the interior or (it works fine, so i shouldn't right?) replace and o-rings and valves?

And one last question. Are they keyless chucks? I can turn it by hand, and it will tighten and loosen, but they sell a chuck for it online. I haven't actually used it on anything yet, so idk?

I would let oil soak for a few days thru the air fitting. And look into inline oiler for the drill

It's a great drill I use or pdr3a with keyless chuck all the time I actually like the feel of the pdr3a over the new pdr3000a it feels more balanced imo

The PD3A is non reversible where the PDR3 is reversible. I think the housings are the same so the boot should work though I have no first hand knowledge.

I have bought and sold a lot of air tools and I never hesitate to buy a Snap on air drill. They always seem to work. I can't say that about any other air tool though and I normally avoid used SO impacts.

You have a great drill that spins nice and slow and won't burn up your bits.

I personally would keep the keyed chuck as you can get the bit tighter then in a keyless one. But I would think a keyless one would be easy to find as they are somewhat universal,
