I have a Snap On PGS1 air powered gasket scraper. I disassembled it to check the O-Rings and in the process lost the steel ball. I'm hoping someone has a parts list with the ball size or an old one they can disassemble and measure the ball. Thanks in advance.

you might call snap on and see if they can tell you what size the ball is also ask if they still rebuild them and if so see if they can tell you what size it is or they might send you one out

I suggest you get a telescopic magnet and try to find that ball. It's no longer available.

Are you talking about part P on the snap on IPL? I have one and will try and get some time to take it apart and mic the ball for you.

Has anyone had good luck with pneumatic gasket scrappers? I have had several come through and it seems hit or miss as to whether they work.

I bought mine used and had to take it apart and clean it up and replace an Oring or two and also the spring pin. When I was searching about them it seems they have some problems but most a pretty easy fixes. They are easy to take apart and unless something major is broke they are pretty cheap to fix.

Just got a chance to take mine apart. Here is a couple pictures to make sure this is the ball you are talking about. If so it's a .250 ball bearing. Should be able to pick one up at any hardware store for a few cents.

I buy strictly to resell and have avoided the air scrappers because they tend to be problematic. Nice to know that if you are willing to service the tool, it can be fixed easily.
Wow, thanks for the responses and the interest. This old scraper was given to me by a friend because it didn't work and because I thought it might be interesting to try and fix it. It will run, but not under load. I found five O-rings and aside from suffering from permanent deformation syndrome the only one with visible wear damage was the one that strokes ("U" on the Snap On diagram). I saw all of the earlier posts from a few years ago on this sight and saw that today Snap On only lists two parts as still being available for this tool, neither of which is needed in this case. I've no idea where the ball went. It was there one minute and gone the next - no sound effects or anything. 0.250" seems about right - the hole it works in is 0.252". I didn't know how much clearance the design called for and I appreciate signcrafter's willingness to take his apart and chance loosing his ball to measure it for me. I'll see how it works when I get the parts and reassemble it.

Just looked into my air tool parts source, and there's next to nothing listed for parts for that model (just generic o-rings).
I had luck with my Snappy PT110 angle grinder. Lost the tiny ball, and couldn't find any singles (just bags of a ton of them). I had an old brake bleeder from my truck, sawed the top off and pulled the check ball out of that. Exact same size, and the grinder has worked flawlessly for over a year now.

Got the O-Rings today. Went to Fastenal who had bags of 100 but no singles. The salesman cut the bags and got me one of each of the five sizes and wouldn't charge me anything for them, hence he earned a free plug here. Regrettably, he didn't have the steel ball. I have found a couple dozen in my junk but none the right size yet. One was 0.220 and about a dozen were 0.254 (probably all out of the same bearing). Looked again for the one I lost. Must have rolled up under something.

Go grab one of those magnetic rails from Harbor Freight, leave it in the package and move it all around the floor. It will turn up, found a lot of small steel parts that way in the past. It works better than the magnetic rollers, and with the plastic still on, it's really easy to wipe off metal shavings.

Try a bicycle repair shop, they usually have singles. Also as mentioned hardware stores.

No local hardware stores? .254 is probably a .250 bearing, the cheaper ones have a .005" tolerance. Go to mcmaster.com and search steel ball. Type 1/4" into the left hand side for diameter. Item 9528K15 is a bearing quality ball with a tolerance of .0001" which will be more then fine. They are 4.37 for a 100 of them. If you want a really tight tolerance you can get a high tolerance ball bearing with a .00005" tolerance, item 9528K53 is 4.47 for two of them. Shipping is usually pretty reasonable from them.
I would try to find a local hardware store and take a caliper with you and go through their ball bearings and try to find one as close to .250 as you can. Should only be a few cents. My ball bearing stock isn't much since I have a hardware store a few blocks away but I will check this weekend and see if I have an extra one. If I do I will send it out to you.
MSC had them. I had to order a bag of 100 but they were less than $6. The carbon steel version was four something but I ordered the chromed ones. Don't know what to do with the other 99, but if all ends well it will be a cheap fix. I've installed the O-Rings so as soon as the steel balls get here I'll be ready to try it out. I'll post the results.

Excellent! Make sure to put some air tool oil in to lube everything before you fire it up. Also check the spring pin that holds the bit holder onto the tool. Mine was cracked when I got it and while it worked it didn't work good. It looked in good shape but once I drove it out with a pin punch it was in a bunch of pieces and couldn't tell while it was in the tool. It's a "coiled" spring pin, I tried a regular roll pin and that didn't work.
Got it! Dropped the ball in, screwed it back together and it runs like a micro jack hammer. Haven't had a need for it yet so I don't know how it will work. I did shave some wood chips off of a pine board just to try it out, so it now works under load which it wouldn't do to start with. Now I'll just wait until I need it for something. Thanks for all the comments.
I bought mine used about 15 years ago. You can adjust the air pressure down [the collar at the base of the tool] to keep from damaging the metal below the gasket. With these tools, there is a "knack" to using it safely and effectively. Mine is starting to bypass air, so I guess I need to take it apart and fix it. I've searched for a YouTube video or anything else regarding fixing mine. None found. This thread is the best there is. Anyone have an exploded view or a parts list for this thing? I couldn't find anything on the Snap On site.
