Wow, thanks for the responses and the interest. This old scraper was given to me by a friend because it didn't work and because I thought it might be interesting to try and fix it. It will run, but not under load. I found five O-rings and aside from suffering from permanent deformation syndrome the only one with visible wear damage was the one that strokes ("U" on the Snap On diagram). I saw all of the earlier posts from a few years ago on this sight and saw that today Snap On only lists two parts as still being available for this tool, neither of which is needed in this case. I've no idea where the ball went. It was there one minute and gone the next - no sound effects or anything. 0.250" seems about right - the hole it works in is 0.252". I didn't know how much clearance the design called for and I appreciate signcrafter's willingness to take his apart and chance loosing his ball to measure it for me. I'll see how it works when I get the parts and reassemble it.
