Snap On Plastic Trays

So, I a while back I responded to a Martketplace ad for some snap on trays. There were several trays that I wanted listed locally and some others.

Well, the seller had two bins full and offered them to me for a very low price (almost free). I've got screwdriver trays, wrench, socket, extension, pliers, etc. Also a few Matco trays. They've been sitting around my garage waiting for me to figure out what to do with them.

I have a few questions, appreciate any input:

1) Is there demand or a market for these? Ebay is mixed, some items have listings, many do not.

2) Is there some way to tell which snap on tool sets fit in a PAK??? (for example).

3) I don't see the PAK or PAKTY or whatever item numbers being active on snap on's website, does snap on sell replacement trays, and where can I see prices?

4) If there is a market, what is the most efficient way to list, sell, and ship them?

I mainly bought them to get the ones I wanted and to save them from being thrown away, now I'm wondering if it's worth my time to try to resell them?

Thanks!

I take most stuff out of the trays as I feel they take up too much space. As do most mechanics I know so I’d say there is no market for them. Personally I hang on to all of mine though as I feel if I ever sell the tools I could get more out of them with the trays however no value in just the trays themselves in my opinion.

I like them and would take them given an opportunity such as yours, but I would never pay good money for that thin plastic.

Blow molded trays cost about one or two cents to make. I can't imagine there would be any market. I generally left the trays in the truck when I bought sets.

Snap-on does not sell replacement trays by themselves, and that's why there is most definitely a market for them - I see them all the time on eBay, which is probably your best bet for selling them. I'd say average selling price is around $15-$20/tray. Whether that amount of money is worth your time is completely your decision. Best way I've found of matching the trays to tool sets is to find a listing on eBay that has actual images of the set (not stock images) and try to find the PAK# in the listing images.

Is that like those trays that they sell wrenches in? I've only got the ones that came with my fittings wrenches and they're super cheaply made, more for display and shipping than use.

I've got a couple of those briefcases that wrench sets came in and they're actually pretty nice, but there's really no use case I can think of for them. Good presentation as a gift I guess.

I mean, they say "Snap-On" on them so I'm sure you can find a sucker somewhere that will pay $200 a piece for them.

seriously though, I threw all of mine away several years ago. Unless you dont plan on ever selling the tools, I would keep them at the house somewhere. If you ever do decide to sell a set, it will increase the value a few bucks.
