I like my 5" Knipex Cobra pliers and the 4" Vise Grips. Knipex needs a mini version of their twin grip pliers.

Depends. The most fair comparison in this case is the 4" Cobra's which go for about $30-$32 on Amazon. The 4" pliers wrench is about $42 on Amazon.

When you get into the standard 8"-10" Knipex, you'll quickly be in the $40-$60+ territory. For whatever reason Knipex prices vary widely. Pliers wrench can cost twice what Cobras do.

USA made Milwaukee are in the $35-$55 range. USA made Klein are in the range $30-$60 range. USA made Channellock are the most affordable around $30. Icon of course are $20, but not USA made.

Plenty of options... Personally, I go the Snap On route with a few Knipex.

Sure, Cobras and plier wrenches are fairly complicated, with pricing to match. But linemans, combination pliers, dikes, needle nose—what I consider to be “regular” pliers— they’re all around $20-40 from knipex or Klein. Even the Alligator knipex pliers, which are like the cobras but don’t have a push button mechanism, can be had for less than $30.

The only brand I know that routinely sells pliers for more than $50 is Snapon, and neophyte says they don’t own any Snapon…..@neophyte — please elaborate on your pliers with us, good sir

I like parallel pliers made by Maun.
The prices have gotten very high.

The same high prices apply to various Knipex pliers like the Plier wrenches.

1000v VDE dip insulated pliers can also routinely cost $50+.

Pliers from brands like Lindstrom are also easily $50+ nowadays.

Snap-On pliers have always been comparatively expensive, especially the non-standard designs.

Wow, those pliers by Maun and Lindstrom look very nice indeed! What do you use the flat pliers for? I’ve never seen them before. Do you make jewelry or things of that nature?

I mostly stick with Klein for my work as a remodeler. I think Knipex edges them out when it comes to overall quality but Klein pliers seem more resilient and more tolerant of abuse/disuse. The new Milwaukee MiUSA pliers look and feel nice in the store, I’d like to give them a try next.

Agreed! Finally realizing that slip-joints don't need to be tool kit pieces of garbage is awesome.

My go-to rationalization is how many typical lunches/dinners at a restaurant would a given hand tool cost?
That meal was great & all, and I'll still occasionally eat out, but I get to keep the tool (hopefully) forever.

I pretty much always lose mine but then I find someone else's so it's a wash.

Just ordered some Ku-nipex cobras though after a good experience with a pair. Got the 7,10,12 set coming from the UK.

Not in a rush, but they will come in handy at some point.
