I thought they just increased prices in the spring but they've gone up again. Seems like 5-10% for many items (all wrenches/sockets I checked anyway).

Must be to offset the return of the USA stamp! :willy_nil :p

$500 for how many wrenches? 10? WTF? They're a little crazy in Kenosha. I know Packer football....cheese... Lambeau field...

Beyond too rich for my blood.

That's one thing the Taiwanese/Chinese cannot make and that's decent wrench. They got a long ways to go to catch up with Snap-on.

It's not so much the prices going up as much as the value of the dollar keeps dropping. What's more useful to you: a dollar, or a wrench? :D

There will always be someone, somewhere out there that will buy those wrenches. No matter the price. Thats the beauty/stupidity of buying on credit sometimes people just dont even care what the price is as long as they can stretch out the payments

It's like anything else, it's how you market it. Ours costs more so, therefore it must be superior (just ask MerK/CWP1616L). Don't worry about the price, you can use your new wrench set to earn money, while you pay your new wrench set off at only $50 a week...

Kind of makes those full polished Craftsman Industrial wrench sets look like a better deal:beer:

Unfortunately, I don't think mechanics/techs wages are increasing at the same rate Snap on prices are.

^^^^THIS! It's what got my *** when I started. I hardly had any real tools (other than your basic Craftsman *** Hundred piece mechanics starter set) and within two weeks of beginning my job at a Ford dealership, my opening credit line was $4000 through Snap On.

Enough said......

I finally owe $850 to Matco and ALL of my remaining tools bills are PAID.....:rocker:

I've been pretty happy with my Taiwanese Gearwrench flex wrenches. Of course, I don't think there's anyone in the US making modern ratcheting wrenches anyway. They were a whole bunch cheaper, for more wrenches, that flex and ratchet, too. :p

$300 or $500 for some freaking combo wrenches? 10 freaking combo wrenches? :shocking:

yeah?,whats the resale value on those other brands,i hear you guys can get good deals on used hf stuff

Never understood the whole resale value argument......I plan on being buried with my tools, or at least keeping them until I can no longer use them, at which point you can kill me because I will not want to be alive!

Some Snap On is worth the premium, others not so much. Do not like it, do not buy it....pretty simple idea that goes for ANY brand, COO, etc.:dunno:

Also remember that number covers the dealers stocking/delivering the tools and the convenience of not having to go out to get the tools. Even though I don't turn wrenchs for a living any more I still spend the extra on SO.

Yeah I guess getting stuff shipped to your door is way less convenient.

Good tools come at a premium. This goes for any tool, power or hand all you have to do is compare apples to apples and you can see that they all are pretty close in price. You buy tools according to how you use them. If your a guy that only uses them occasionally then theres no reason to buy top of the line, if you make your living with them then you want a tool you can depend on for constant use over the long haul.

Doesn't seem like the price of ratchets was increased much.

Which doesn't help my situation, I've been reading for a few hours now about issues people have had with Dual 80s and still can't make up my mind between those and a set of Wright roundheads for a lot less :(

The only "issue" with the Dual 80's is the S80's which, as mentioned in the other thread , has design flaws where the plate screws loosen and/or shear.

F80's and T72's are almost flawless. Sure, you can break or damage any tool in using it, but all-in-all they are a solid tool investment.

Look for the S80A's if you want piece of mind for the 1/2's . Done.

But buy what you like.

I haven't seen any of the pros who have to heat things red hot and then hammer the wrong size wrench on to a badly corroded nut check in with their preference say their wrench likes and dislikes.

For me, i cant tell the difference on the big stuff, say over 7/8ths or 22 mm. But the smaller stuff is very noticeable.

I really doubt many folks pay cash at these prices. I would think most of them are financed and just make weekly payments. As for resale it seems you can get the most if you sell on Ebay. I have stopped browsing Ebay for used Snap-on as I never see any deals as a buyer. I find most of my deals on Craigs List. I generally will only be interested if I can get 75% off of list. These retail prices are just crazy in my opinion. I don't see how the average Tech can afford them. It almost seems like women and coach handbags.

Interesting thread, I said WTH! as I've been eying the 3/8 extension set (208AFX) and it jumped up $10. So much for my hopes of a Holiday type sale LOL

Go to pawn shops, i scored a full set 8mm-24 for maybe $175.... Some were from pawn shops, a few were from Snap on Student discount program and 1 was off the truck.

Snappy prices are indeed high, but worth the cost if you use them every day. Their durability is second to none. I have Snap-On tools that are ANCIENT, and still work fine. My collection dates from 1923, to the 1940's, to a bunch of 1980's tools and newer. All are very well used, and all work flawlessly. I want tools that I can count on to WORK for life, and will be available for sale at my estate sale.

I've put cheater pipes on wrenches before (damn left handed nuts!), and instead of spreading or breaking, Snappy open end flank drive plus bit into the nut, at extremely high torque.

Quality is something each man must judge for himself.

Not a good example. The long snap-on combo set posted sells for $200-$250 pretty regularly on the secondary market, including sets new in the wrapper. Thats a $250 (~50%) loss right out the door buying direct from snap-on.

The Craftsman Pro wrenches on the other hand will nearly get you all your money back (or even earn you a profit since they got discontinued!), but even at a 50% loss you're still hundreds of dollars ahead.

Another point, you can buy the long pattern set of SK wrenches (with cash to spare) for what you'd lose in the resale value of snap-on wrenches buying direct.

As far as HF, the used tool market might surprise you but it comes down to this. They're so damn cheap to begin with that the price doesnt have much room to move down. This is exactly why you see idiots paying more for HF products on ebay than what they'd pay if they walked into the store. The price is so cheap they dont even question it.

Not trying to start any war but:

Sometimes I get confused first guys are screaming oh my gosh I will never buy chinese craftsman tools, "kill me first", then some people are screaming oh my gosh snap on is raising their prices...seems to me buying tools from every part of the world is the way to go.
