what is the oldest model snap on 3/8 ratchet that could be updated to the dual 80 technology,or is it not possible.also is it true the new snap on ratchets dont say made in us.edit if the current production fr80 model is not marked made in us,what is the last production year that it was?OMG well after reading some other older threads i see that this is a touchy subject(for the snap on can do wrong crowd)What i want is a snap on 3/8 drive w/quick release and dual 80 technology and marked usa,if it is no longer made ok.was it ever?all my snap on stuff is older and marked us,i am not sure why anything would be different today that would cause them to remove it and i dont care.this is a description of the tool THAT I WANT.i am simply asking if it exists,or if i could make it using an older ratchet body to start with.i have my own opinion on why the new ones are not marked usa,and i am sure you do too.that has nothing to do with my question

is there any advantage to not having the quick release

You don't have to hit the button to release it, and doesn't get in the way in very tight areas. I personally don't like quick release, I prefer the sleek look of friction style ratchets. A lot of people however love quick release. It really is handy when your covered in grease, and takes minimal effort to remove a socket and you don't get the "almost hit you in the face" jerk from removing a socket on a non quick release ratchet.

I just got some snap on flex heads without the quick release and they are my first ratchets that did not have them. I find it can be pretty hard to remove sockets, especially while greasy. I hoping this will get easier the more I use the ratchets.

One thing with the quick releases that bothered me is when I would be jamming the ratchet into a tight space the quick release would get bumped and I would lose the socket.

what year did dual 80 come out

2006 / 2007.

And even back then not all were stamped "USA" from the factory.Hit or miss as I have a hlf dozen Dual 80's all bought new off the truck from just a little after they came out and not all have the "USA"

Hold out and get a new one if you want the stamp unless you can find a used one with it.

oh boy,i will be calling snap on tomorrow to place my order wheee im giddy

Not so fast. They're putting the USA in the grooves of the handle, not on the head where it always used to be on the older models. Unless you hold the handle up one inch away from your eyeball, the ratchet will look the same as the non-marked 80 series ratchets.
