Very Nice man, I really appreciate you giving me a step by step. I see a couple things that could save me some time. I guess I shud try putting in as much oil as possible in the fill. Like if it says capacity is 4 1/8 Ill try to put 4 in rather than jus 3 or 3 1/2. or shud I try for 4 1/8 with the readings on the oil bottles? I also really like your idea of using the oil dripping (from oil filter flange or oil pan?) to lubricate the new filters o ring. I crack open a new bottle for that so that could save some good time there. torque stick! I like those. When I start building my air tool collection I will for sure have those. and you mentioned a crush gasket? For the pan bolt? If so, very nice. I rarely change mine but the last oil change I did.

Ya I know oil change is pretty basic but I wanna learn how to turn a 30 minute driveway/jack change into a 15....or 12 minute  shop/lift change and rotation. I shaved off 7/8 minutes so not too bad lol

I don't know if you can do it that quick in a driveway, nor do I do my own cars so quick, shop or driveway. I do what the shop expects me to do on customer cars, get it out in 18 minutes or less. On my own car, I bring it into the shop in the morning and lift it up and let the pan and filter drip drain all day.

O wow, good perspective. I wonder what "I do what the shop expects me to do on customer cars, get it out in 18 minutes or less" exactly means lol. Like pan not finished draining but still put plug back? O ok so it is 18 mins like I thought. someone told me 20 but I didn't think that was exactly right. You made me feel better about not being as fast in my driveway lol. So 22:30ish isnt too bad for a driveway change huh? I was a bit distracted and with some of your tips I think I can do 20 flat easy. Thank You!

It means the shop wants to make as much money as possible. Usually by the time I am done with the rotate and filter change the pan is just dripping, meaning there is still a little old oil in there that the new oil will dilute. It's not going to hurt the engine.

On my own vehicle, I like to get as much out as possible and then run a few quarts of clean cheap stuff through the valve cover and let it drip out the bottom of the pan until it's completely clean. I also like to change my PCV when I do an oil change. Little things like that turn an 18 minute oil change flip into 45-60 minutes. But at 19.95, the customer isn't paying for that level of care. They are literally paying for the bare minimum.

Do you even look at the car when you do a 12 minute oil change?
When I do an oil change or any kind of service I'm always looking for extra work that the car, boat, tractor, ect. needs. A customer isn't going to be very happy if a belt breaks the next day, The first thing they'll ask is "Didn't you see I needed a belt ?", I get a lot of extra work that only needed an oil change.

I work at a dealership, 95% of the cars that come in for oil changes have less than 36K and are on some special maintenance package and under warranty. What sort of things are you hoping for someone to check on your 9K, 1 year old vehicle that cannot be determined by a quick spot check while doing the work you are in for?

Ah gotcha! ya that sounds good. sound right lol. I figured the same thing, that the little bit will get diluted.

another good perspective. run qts of cheap oil, pcv valve too, wow. You are very meticulous sir and I highly respect that. Ya thats true 20 bucks, that isnt even the cost of some good castrol oil for the change. I'd be scared what kinda oil and labor Id be getting for 20 lol. Maybe going to dealer gives them a false sense of security? thinking theyre getting A1 work for 20 bucks lol.

Man I wish I could do 12minute lof rotation. My shop only has computers for service advisors and parts. We get paper ro's.after I rack the car, drain oil, inspect and set tires. I Walk to parts counter to get filter. It's only two of them so they might be busy with other tech or customer or just bull shitting and can take up ten minutes.sometimes I go back and rotate tires instead of waiting. Or I get the filter after a few minutes.hell forget how long it can take if I'm trying to get a p&a going. Then I lower the car after filter and rotation. Then I have to go hunt down a funnel and oil bucket and walk to the oil tank to pump 5 quarts at a time that's up to 3 trips to the oil tanks if its a diesel. Then start engine let it run and check and top off all fluids. Thank god I'm hourly and the works pays .8 and lof .4-.5 or .7 diesel.

The dealer ship I worked at be fore I was flat rate, every tech had a computer and parts would have parts waiting as soon as ro was created. 5-20 came out of the wall lines and 5-30 and 15-40 were on movable tanks that could be pushed across shop.back then I was flat rate and could get it done within .4-.5

As for to original topic. I have no qr ratchets both Mac and so. The only ratchet I have problems pulling short sockets off is my snap on 1/4 size ratchet with a 3/8 head. That's it, I have been curious about getting a so qr 3/8 ratchet. It looks cool.
