Snap on ratchet failure

Hey guys just wanted your opinion I bought a 80 tooth long swivel head soft grip snap on ratchet the other day, and the first time that I put some force on it the ratchet jumped/ skipped teeth. I was removing calliper slider pins for goodness sake. Now my question is because it's only 3 days old should I get a new ratchet or just have my dealer change the guts? I'm pretty disappointed, I have 12 snap on ratchets 4 per drive so I have plenty of extra but man I never had a ratchet fail on the first use.

**** happens. Just have your dealer inspect it to see why it failed but I'd probably ask for a replacement. That's why you pay so dearly for on site dealer support.

kinda *****. But your dealer will take care of you. The reason it is so expensive is because it is "Chromed Crack" my box will never have enough. If my box at work gets too full I take it home and keep buying more.

I would probably ask for a replacement but I wouldn't be horribly upset if they just rebuilt it. It happens. Could even just be a piece of debris from the factory that got between the pawl and gear. It happens.

Even though you stated you have 12 others that are fine, I'm waiting for someone to sail in to tell you that this is utter proof that snap on is awful lol.

Nothing wrong with your ratchet, dual 80s do this occasionally.

Or that he abused it and is a severely dishonest scumbag for trying to get it fixed under warranty. Just you wait...

I've done many brake jobs using my SO ratchet and the hasn't happened to me yet. Could be a lemon or defect in the gear material. Go back to your SO dealer to get it warrantied.

I had one of my dual 80's do that I took it apart and it had grease hardened in the teeth so they weren't engaging well. I cleaned and relubed it and it worked fine after.

Check that the cover plate is tight. My friend's dual 80 did that when the screws were loose.

This happened mainly on my 1/2 models, I think that is why they moved the screws back to the top instead of the plate on the bottom. Also add Loctite as well.

Right. That's the experience we have with the local Snap-on rep. The other trucks are much better about warrantying legitimately broken (i.e. not cheater piped) tools. (Not a reflection of the company, just the local rep.)

I own over 100 ratchets and I've never had a snap on fail except for the time I used a long handle 1/2 as a hammer and the side of the head shattered it was my first snap on tool ever. Just get it rebuilt its not like the body is bad I have gotten new ones with bad grind marks and scratches on had half the head groin off only those I think would be grounds for full replacement. Why don't you just take it apart and stretch the spring it should be fine after that.
I've had a Mac axis 90t skip on a spark plug I stretched the spring and now it's fine.
