My father passed away about three weeks ago and have been going through his "stuff". In all of it I found an older long handled 1/2" ratchet. The problem is it will only turn one direction. Is this cause for a replacement under warranty? If so, how do I do it? Thanks

You can buy a rebuild kit on Snap-on's website for most models. You can also call their customer service phone number, and they may just send you one free.

Sorry about your Dad. You could try to take it apart and see if you see anything broken if not clean off the old oil and put some fresh oil on it. Had a old NOS SK do that and that is all it needed.

I've had a few ratchets that just needed a good cleaning. if it's busted, call snap on and ask for a rebuild kit. They aren't hard to install

The only tricky part is seating the spring under the pawl. I forgot to order the installation tool when I rebuilt my SL710, but the new rebuild kits have a bullet shaped piece that fits into the spring instead of a ball bearing that sits on top of it, which makes it a lot easier. I used a tack lifter to hold the spring down when I installed the pawl.

Sorry about your Dad

I just ordered 2 rebuild kits at Snap On's site,
some kits for some of the older ratchets aren't perfect matches

= some times you'd have to use a different style reversing handle if you swap the selector.

The kits were $10.50 each shipping included.

Sorry for your loss. Not sure if you have access to a SnapOn truck, if so tell the driver of your father's passing. He may or may not help you to take apart and clean the ratchet. It's worth a try.

If not, like davethorik said, call SnapOn cust service, they will sell you a rebuild kit, might send one for free.

Good luck

either fine a snap on truck or call their customer service, let them know about the problem. You can send it to them for repair, if they can't fix it they will replace it with a brand new one. (unless of course you want to hold onto it for sentimental reasons)

I've had good luck just soaking a ratchet's head in transmission fluid overnight. Most of the time that has worked. When it doesn't then it's disassembly time.
