You can get a williams ratcheting screwdriver off of Amazon for 36 dollars.....it's the same thing as the Snap on

The Williams is likely the best value even if the handle shape is somewhat different then the Snap-on. I had seen New Holland branded as well on ebay (re-labeled Williams style handle). You could watch the classifieds as well, they do pop up once in a while.
FWIW, For the price of a used one off ebay, you may as well buy new from Snap-on, Unless you wait for a deal.

If you're willing to buy a Williams for $36, find a New Holland dealer and order part number SN80005 for the same item, only with a New Holland logo, and around $25/each.

There are differences between the Snap-on and the Williams, but they're minor (quad-lobe handle and shaft knurling on the Snap-on, tri-lobe handle and no shaft knurling on the Williams).

Same shaft same mechanism, but the handle is shaped differently.
Similar, but not the same.
Handles are shaped differently.
SO has a longer shank.
SO has a knurled shank.
SO comes with a PH3 bit, Williams comes with a T-15.
SO handle cap is sealed with an O-ring.
SO comes in numerous colors.

i recently bought the Bahco lighted one off Amazon as a warehouse deal for $24. Also made by snap-on.
Decided to buy 5 of the williams and leave them in strategic locations. My earlier comment about magnet not being as strong was incorrect. The bits are a bit beaten up and the less used ones are fine. Now I don’t have to move them around and worry about misplacing them.
Unless the OP needs it inmediately, SnapOn is online and will ship to anybody for FREE,with no minimum order. We have bought as little as a cleanout tap for 2 or 3 bucks. I think a lot of people are not aware of this service and spend time chasing down a truck if they are not a regular customer, on a drivers route.

Every time I buy a Snap On tool, I just call the company directly. The service is friendly and efficient. Since I don’t spend too much, the shipping is free. I make a call and a couple days later the tool arrives on my doorstep. That seems pretty easy.

When reading the Amazon reviews on the Williams version; it is noted by some who own both the SnapOn and Williams versions the SnapOn is smoother.. The question of Asian or USA Williams was brought up, and so far, all responses have stated USA is stamped on the handle.
May not be genuine SnapOn; but there are a herd of Amazonians that are well satisfied with their choice.
Re-branded for New Holland?? Could the folks that own one verify the country of origin for a wondering mind?

Okay, admittedly you are right, there are slight differences, but the mechanisms are the same and they're made by the same company. I own the Snap On (purchased used) and have used the Williams. It's kind of like a Tahoe vs a Yukon. Different but the same.
When I've bought the Case IH ones (same thing as the New Holland ones just stamped Case), the packages never mentioned COO. However, the bits have Snap-on part numbers, are have the same handles as my Williams WRS-1 screwdrivers only in black, and most of them have Snap-on/Williams date codes on the shaft. Two of the six I have do not, but they seem to be older ones that have a different Case logo on the handle. No idea what was going on there. FWIW, they all have on o-ring on the end cap. Point of it all, is if the WRS-1 is US made, I'm pretty sure the Case/New Holland ones are too based on the similarities.

I have a Snap-on TMR4 (1/4 ratcheting driver), a Williams WRS-1, and a Williams WRST-4 (T-handle 4" shank screwdriver).
Both Williams were super smooth from the factory.
The Snap-on has noticeably more backdrag and is not as smooth. I still have to disassemble and see if it's anything obvious.
My dad has 2 older Snap-on SSDMR4B black handle drivers, and they are smoother than any of mine, but way older and more heavily used.

So, it would be safe to assume that the SnapOn, Williams, and re-branded New Holland or Case-IH ratcheting drivers could be purchased with confidence.. And the smoothness could vary from tool to tool?? Being I drove past the local New Holland Dealer twice today, I appreciate knowing of these gems that would otherwise go unnoticed.

I agree, it could vary. I bought a brand new Snap-on SSDMR4B for my BIL as a gift, and it was in between my Snap-on and the Williams in terms of smoothness. I'll have to check the next time I'm over there, I know the last time I talked to him he said that he uses it all the time.

I own a snap on and a few Williams. To me if I could get the snAppy for a fair price of 4o all in I’d do it. I could not and purchased a few williams. For my use they are equal. Only issue is knurling helps when hands are greasy. I’ll survive.
I don’t like it when people try to make others look cheap for not wanting to get shafted. You pay msrp for your cars ?

With few exceptions, list price is what you pay for Snap-on tools. One of those exceptions is official sales events, outside of that, they don't seem to discount the tools themselves all that much. Boxes, of course, are an entirely different story, but any off-sale discounting of the other stuff is typically a dealer taking a hit to his/her profit margin.
If Williams isn't an acceptable alternative (and from your newest post, it sounds like it's not), then you're probably going to have to accept that, in order to save a few bucks, you're going to have to bid on eBay, against your earlier stated desires.
I don't see that the poster you quoted tried "to make others look cheap" , but more made a sarcastic comment about wanting to buy new Snap-on tools and not pay list price, because such a thing is, in general, a comical idea. That's now how that particular product line works.
With all of your various qualifications on the purchase of a new Snap-on ratcheting screwdriver, and "not wanting to get shafted" it looks like the only way for you to win this game is not to play.

I recently bought a Williams WRS-1 and it came with an o-ring on the cap. So I guess that's no longer a difference.

If there is a New Holland Dealership nearby, bring the part number with for the Set that is available in the USA New Holland Dealerships.. If You try this routine; definitely let Us know if this will work for You..

Can't agree with this. I have several Snap On ratcheting screwdrivers and didn't pay retail for them. Ebay, a craiglist lot of tools that included one, GJ classifieds, etc. I think I bought just one, a long ratcheting T driver, off the truck at around full price. They are out there, the question becomes whether the search is worth it.
