I purchased one of these a couple years ago and a few months went but and it came apart in my hand wasn't even torqing on it or anything like hard work . My snap on guy at the time gave me a new one a just different color oh well. I've had this in my tool box and really don't use it all that often I do use it for torx screws because I have the removable shanks and usually works pretty good . Well today I thought I give her a couple spins tighting screws down on bus seats and the first damn screw I tighten it comes apart and all the little gears and springs over the bus floor found them all and I'm not able to reassemble back together . Has anyone experienced same troubles like I have with this particular model? I was wondering am I pushing to hard on the thing and releaing something for it to come apart? I'll tell you I'm really fed up this thing . when I see snappy Monday I will (A) get a new one (B) tell him to refund credit towards my tool bill I will never buy or use same model again I honestly am going to break out my older black plastic handled ractheting screwdriver and going to bring that one to work. I guess does anyone a have different preference ?

hmmm... I have thought about the version you have, I currently have the stubby handle and regular soft grips, I have had them for a couple years now with no problems... what is breaking on yours? the ratchet action or the swivel? you might consider buying the cordles driver that is on sale this month in the flyer... think 129.00 ... a couple coworkers have them and swear by them

ratchet action and I think the snap ones are nice but I already have a milwaukee lithium ion driver and I think it rocks

Gee I've had one for some time and really like it. Actually my wife gave it to me for a birthday. My only complaint is sometimes I hit the handle position release and it bends on me at the wrong time.

The basic mechanism is the same as in the hard handled versions (which I also like) so it should be a mature product.

I also prefer the hard handle; I have both the softgrip/hard versions... It may have something to do with the fact that I had the hard version for a long time and was used to it; if I only had exposure to the soft one... I may have liked it! As it is I reach for hard handle and never use the soft grip!

I have two of them, and they have never given me any trouble at all. I think they are rock solid. You must just have a stroke of bad luck. I torque mine as hard as necessary, and they have never slipped or let me down. One of my favorite SO tools to be honest.

A friend of mine has a soft grip ratcheting screwdriver (but not the 5 position one like you) and it is a POS. The ratcheting mechanism doesn't work.

I've got an old hard handle one that is awesome.

I went stupid one day and decided to disassemble one of mine, LOTS of little pieces, I couldn't get it back together, so I took it back, and Tony gave me a new one. I don't like the new orange handle ,loved the yellow handle.

I have about 6 of these, and NEVER again will I take one apart. Proof of the old adage: If it's NOT broke, don't fix it.

I wonder how they assemble them at the factory?

I have 6 of the soft handled and 3 of the hard handled. I only had trouble with one soft handle I bought off ebay for $5.00. It was obviously broken for that price. I took it apart and cleaned it and oiled the internal parts and it has worked flawlessly for 3 years. I have never had a problem with any of them other than the one I bought in a non-working condition. They are easy to clean and lubricate, but it was tricky to get the retaining ring back on when putting it back together. It requires a good set of really small electronic style needle nose pliers.

I just got 3 Brittool ratcheting screwdrivers. Two are gearless and the other is a ratchet job.


In my opinion the gearless ones **** ****

soft grip drivers are junk sold bolth of mine on ebay and got the hard handel one on ebay new and got my stubby hard handel new from truck you can still buy hard handel new from snapon only in black or orange much better ratcheting driver and you are not always hitting the forward reverse lever.
