Snap on ratcheting screwdriver

I'm not a wrench, just an avid do it yourselfer and shade tree mechanic so I've never had any Snap On tools until yesterday. My wife liked a rug at an estate sale a half mile from the office so I ran over there at lunch. The rug was over $700 so I passed but did check out the garage. A fair amount of the usual crappy HF tools but I did find a long ratcheting screwdriver. It had a piece of masking tape with the price covering up the label but I knew enough to be excited that it could be the good stuff and it was. Snap On. And the best part - only one dollar.

The shaft is almost 8" long so it's not great for all purpose use but I think I did good.

That a super deal, although I think they give them away "free" at least that is what the box mine came in, when I bought my $680 screwdriver set I got a free ratcheting screwdriver, LOL...

great find, and WOW $700 for a rug at a garage sale? Ballsy... I would have missed that screwdriver deal because my wife would have called and said "I am at a garage sale and there is a rug here" I would have said send me a picture and how much is it, then she would have said $700 and I would have hung up, lol..

My first suckage! Woo hoo. I was tempted to educate the lady running the estate sale on Snap On, but took my prize and ran! Now do I keep it sell to help fund the other tools I need, like a 18v Ridgid battery or a fine 12" saw blade for the Dewalt slider? Or do I complete the set? I am tempted to complete the set and have already checked eBay. My name is Chad and I am a tool addict.

If you don't own any snap-on its not a bad tool to have I have 6 of them ratcheting screwdrivers, they have the with 1/4" drives, stubby, std long, curved, there are a bunch of them, at $80-$100 each, lol... If I were you I would keep it if you think you will use it, if not sell it and buy something you will use...

$1 is a great price but I'm not sure it would get as much use as a 6" shaft. Guess you could always change it. What color is that?

Not sure on that particular driver but my SO ratcheting screwdriver has a removeable shaft and you can purchase different length shafts depending on your needs. Just grab the shaft while holding the handle and see if the shaft will pull out of the handle.

That's a HARD HANDLE (SSDMR4B) not a SOFT GRIP (SGDMRC4). The shafts are retained with a clip on the hard handle version. Some folks have removed the clip to easily swap shafts.

Yeah you **** at that price! I found one for a dollar at a garage sale last year. It has quickly become my favorite screwdriver.

If it feels a bit gritty or stiff, take it apart and lube up the mechanism with superlube. It makes it smoooooth!

I think you'll be surprised how often you would use it. I have one and it is one of my most used drivers.

I bought mine in the mid 1990s. I think the only times I haven't used it since then was when the shank was too wide to fit into a recess where the screw was. A fantastic tool.
