To be honest in my area Ive seen the opposite. At swap meets and pawn shops they want $50-70 for an older 1/2" drive ratchet anywhere from 60's to 90's vintage, whereas on the snap on truck I bought one the other day with 88 date stamp for 40. So If people are wanting more for a lot of this used **** than the actual dealer I have a hard time believing there is a drop at all. In my experience its been harder these past couple years to find deals on stuff that are worth buying. A lot of it ends up not being far from new price.

Snap on online will warranty anything without questions....if you buy from them. I spent a few hundred on sockets and a ratchet and they replaced 2 936 ratchets that jammed up on me with new dual 80s and 2 screwdrivers. But it does piss me off when pawn shops think a busted 60s ratchet is the same as the current dual 80.

One thing is 40 yrs ago junk tools were junk, now there are so many good cheap tools that the bolt doesn't know the difference. Can walk right in to a Menards and buy a USA set of end wrenches for lunch money at McDonalds for 2. Competitive shopping is so much easier all the time, as one said, can buy used and there is a zillion times the trading that there was in the past back when Sears was king. People buy and sell the same thing in a week.
Why pay thru the nose today when it will come along tomorrow for less.
As for the warranty, Snap wont stop it, look at the obsessive worry about it. Most profitable part of the marketing, even the debate is good, gives them a chance to shine for honoring a few pieces and someone gushes like a candidate.

Used snap on prices are down right now, because the market is flooded happens every spring and fall, Tach schools let out in the spring, and new students start in the fall, market is flooded wait til december/ january prices will go back up. If you frequent alot of pawn shops you will see the seasonal change of items laptops, and calculators flood in when student loan / pell grant checks arrive, around tax time alot of stuff gets picked up

I've noticed the same...not just Snap-on but all the big tool names. I've been shopping for a toolbox myself and I've gotten many leads on boxes which were puchased a year or less ago...they got laid off...need to unload the box ASAP. Used boxes used to bring good money...trade value or better....now not so much. I've been amazed at what 800 bucks can buy you for a SnapOn box...you could barely \

A totally unscientific observation: but I thought box prices dropped around 2008-10 and then rose again during the next few years. I haven’t watched the market, but if I wonder if they’re down back to 2008-09 levels. Having said that, I never really made a close study post 09-10 of the ratio between asking price and what guys were actually getting. I was seeing, for instance, Classic 78 boxes in really good condition go for between 1500 (maybe a little less to like $1300?) to $2200 -- I wonder what they’re getting now.

I find Snap-On pricing to be all over the place. I find great deals, and then I come across some crazy prices. My local pawn shop has a 9/16" combo that is beat to death for $28. :shocking: The good thing is that they give you 30% off on tools. :wtf:
