I really don't need a road box but there is one for sale for $350 which seems like a good price. Do you guys agree?

I'm having a blonde moment but the above box looks like a top box to me. What makes it a road box am I missing something? Btw I love the layout of it! What would ve the differences in a top box and a road box?

Built like a brick *********. 30" x 20", 200 lbs empty. Also has bottom skids so it dosn't sit on the ground. The lid is not water tight, but I would never let mine sit outside in the weather. Thats one problem with it, it's too nice (and expensive) to use as a road box. Thats what crapsman is for. Mine has an easy life sitting on top of my KRL 1022.

I have one of those boxes as well except mine has the small drawers at the top. The thing is built like a brick *********. I love it.

For $350, I'd be all over it.

+1

My Dad has one and in it's life it has seen hard use and is still in really good shape for it's age, He's had it since the mid '90's IIRC. It could use some paint though.

Great deal, however unless it is in the vehicle permanently, It's going to be too heavy for a "road box"

Back in my racing days I started with a 10 drawer Craftsman top. two STRONG men could not budge it. I had to take 2 drawers out and even then it was a gut buster.

I replaced with a 2 drawer intermediate, and the equivalent of a 4 drawer top. The top was still a struggle but at least we could manage it. (If I absolutely had to, I could do it myself...)

A box filled with tools riding in the back of a service truck has to be strong. The g-forces generated from the weight of the tools when the truck goes fast over rough roads will rip the drawer slides right out of most "top boxes." A road chest is twice as heavy because it has to be to survive.

One of the companies importing chicom stainless boxes brought one around to US Steel for a friend who was the parts and equipment buyer to try. Said it was 1/3 the price of the Snap-on box. He said, "I know you won't buy imported as long as there is a made-in-USA available, but Snap-on boxes will soon be history and we want to be first in line."

My friend said, "Buy me lunch and we'll try it." After lunch, they moved the tools from a Snap-on road chest and put them in the chicom. He told the tech to take the service truck a couple of laps around the perimeter and across all the railroad tracks. When he pulled in, the tools were loose in the bed of the truck. The chicom box was completely ripped apart.

What kind of slides are on the Kra62c ? Are they double slides or single ? are they ball bearing ? Is there a lock and roll or any kind of system to keep the drawers closed ?

There is a lifetime warranty on the drawer slides with the Snap On toolboxes. If they are bent and the drawer closes hard, the drawer slides are not covered under this lifetime warranty

They are friction slides, but they work very nice. There is no need for bb slides on this box. The drawers open as easy as my krl.

They use friction slides intentionally due to it being a road chest, BB slides just get smashed to pieces. It isn't a cost saving feature...

I love mine and it's easily worth the $350 if it's not trashed.
