I scanned the forum in an exhaustive search for matching paint for my KRL1023PCM. I read a lot of posts but no one seemed to have found a solution to matching the paint color. Or actually matching the powder coat color. Well I took my slider lid from one if my drawers to Sherwin Williams and they color matched it.

I chose there industrial precatalyst epoxy paint. The guy matched the color spot on. He even dabbed the paint on my slider lid and while it was wet, it was an exact match. Or 99.5+% anyway. Here is the label if interested. I was not willing to pay $25 a can from Snap On. I got a gallon for $45 and it's really tough paint.

How tough is it? How have you tested it's toughness?

I went to the SW commercial store here in San Antonio, told them I was painting a tool chest over powder coat, and they recommended their industrial alkyd enamel with polyurethane. I've been very disappointed with the scratch resistance of the enamel/poly paint. I'm very interested in your solution - thanks for posting this!

I've had a set back on my project so I'm not ready you paint yet but I will slap some primer and paint on something and post some pics.

Yeah I wasn't thrilled with their enamel either. I'll post some pics soon

So Snap-on is absolutely ridiculous with this proprietary top secret paint! I've spent hours searching for a solution to Royal Blue 19026 & finally found the Snap on part number PN1286308 for 12 oz spray cans but the Snap on site says it's no longer available!

Seriously? So did anyone try this formula? Can they put this in a can? Anyone find an automotive paint code close enough to Royal blue? I've got a good alternative for snap on red via a motorcycle code if anyone needs that!

What's really unbelievable is that this paint is discontinued when they're selling new boxes with this same color right now right or did I miss something?

On the KRL1201 that I just got last week (used Metal Haven) it has the ppg paint code on the label on the back.

and that tag also says PPG Ditzler wet spray number which is 100% useless in any paint shops computer system to cross. Snap ons formulas are proprietary and they don't release the formula so you have to get it from them.

I've tried this about 37 times trying to match extreme green and no one can scan the powder to come up with anything. also tried this when I repainted a roll cab a few years ago. ended up "matching" the red to Gm's performance red. was as close as I could get but wasn't 100%

maybe the normal reds, blues and blacks can be scanned/crossed easier nowadays with better scanners for powder.

curious to see how this turns out long term, and also after its dried

I ended up just giving in and getting the paint from Snap-On to match the green on my tool box. I want to get the wall cabinet for my puller set painted to match my tool box, I hope the powder coat shop near me can match the color I really don’t want to rattle can the whole thing.

I know that this an old tread, but has anyone successfully touched up or painted a Royal Blue Snap On box?
I just bought a used 54" cab and chest that has some scuffs on it. It was 30% of new so a bargain, but I must polish it out and fix the chips/scratches. thanks

If you just want a bottle/brush touch up, our local auto body supply place has a color match camera. They'll read your color (take a drawer to them) and mix you a 2oz bottle for $14. Call your local suppliers and see if they'll do the same. Use a toothpick, not the brush to touch up.

I can't believe I just read this three year old thread...

Take a drawer or door to the paint store and they should be able to match. Paint codes typically refer to factory automotive paint colors. Strap-on probably came up with their own mix in house and are keeping it close hold. The want to avoid clones and people matchy matchy their stuff.

Now someone please go out and get some paint matched and shoot some so we can see what you're doing out there.

Not really 100% on-target (and sorry if this results in hijacking your thread) but

The PPG paint code for the Snap On Red was (PPG 73219) and . . . . .

that number does not exist in any paint store PPG database. that is a wet spray powder coat color code, that is proprietary to snap on

Over the years I have used two auto paint suppliers to get paint matched to a car for small repairs. Call around and ask yours if they provide this product. In both cases the match was very good. It is real automotive paint so pretty good wearing. They usually have primer and 2 part clears. All available in rattle cans w/ the better quality fan tips that you can rotate so the pattern is either horizontal or vertical.

I went to my local body shop that has a PPG mixing station, he was able to mix me Snap On Electric Orange going right off of the PPG ditzler number that was on my serial number Tag of my tool box I asked him if any others were available and he had a whole section of a Snap-On paint codes on his computer.

I just contacted Snap-On and they have a spray can of the Royal Blue, it's $38 plus shipping. I also asked a local body shop and gave them the PPG code and they can make it.
