Snap-on S12 Questions

Last week while digging through a box of old tools, I spotted (and purchased) an old Snap-on ½” drive S12 extension. I have a few questions, and hope that our resident Snap-on experts can help:

--Any idea where the date code is located on this extension? I’ve scrutinized the tool, but can’t find the code anywhere.

--The detent ball that holds the socket in place has fallen out; the hole appears to be intact, so I’m wondering if the ball-bearing broke. Is it possible to replace the ball and spring with something off the shelf? Although I don’t plan to use the extension, it would be nice if it was complete.

the date code is often on the shank, mid-length, opposite of the Snap-on logo. It would date from the very late 20's to mid 30's

Call Snap-On and they will send you a new one for free!

Although they'll replace the extension, I assume they won't replace it with an S12 extension, as they went out of production in the 1930's.

Anyone have an idea whether it's possible to press in another ball-bearing for the socket release?

The ones I have seen opposite where the ball protrudes is a pressed on cover that gives you access to the ball and spring. I have never put one back together so I don’t know if the cover will stay on.
