Good Evening

Recently I found some free time to grease my spare (new still no use) Snap On s80 ratchet and I was disappointed about what found inside after dismantle of ratcheting mechanism.

This type of finish of the ratchet qualifies it for replacement?!?

Anybody had similar findings?

Greetings from Poland

If you complain, they will probably tell you those are grease retention swirls.

I was thinking reduction in turbulence/ improvement in laminar air flow when using the mechanism rapidly.

(Jesting! Is there any functional issue that lead to disassembly? I can see your point about the internal finishing but I’m not sure a replacement is warranted?)

Ratchet was open because of „extra” sound, so I thought about lack of grease.
I feel little play under my fingers during rotating mechanism. Question is how will be situation with sealing function under cover plate.

Unfortunately, that's becoming more common with SO. I got a set of OE wrenches; they were in spec, but the fit and finish left a LOT to be desired. Since they worked, and I didn't want to wait weeks for a replacement, I just used them. I was not happy, but honestly, watching the quality of manufactured goods fall deeper and deeper down the ol' one holer, I'm not surprised. QC I used to attribute to certain east asian and a few eastern european countries (which shall remain nameless, but also have gotten better) seems to now be the American Standard. *****? Bet your behind it *****, but the consumers are willing to accept ****** QC for a lotta money.
As to "will it seal"? IDK, while I used to fill a ratchet with enough grease to, well, fill it, I now coat everything lightly and get in the habit of cleaning them out every so often and regreasing.

I was found similar internal finishing issue on my second ratchet SH80 ( propably 2020, diamond symbol), much less, but still when compare new S80 (2023)and mentioned SH80 with older ratchet S80 from 2018 looks like somebody sleeping during production.

I think all of the ratchets I have disassembled from them have ghosting in the metal from the drive spinning in thay area. Your ratchet is hideous, I'm surprised it doesn't shift the mechanism and bind the ratchet.
