Snap-On / Blue Point purchase tools with there name on them from other tool manufacturers. The only difference is the name on the box and the tool. I know that they used to buy there pullers from OTC, but I don't know if they still do. I have a rethreading kit that is marked Snap-On, but it was made by another company. There was a tool manufacturer in Worcester MA, called STEVENS WALDEN TOOL Company, who made Snap-On tools at one time. They are now out of business. They made some great tools that were unique and sold them to the public under the name Worcester Tool Factory Warehouse. They closed about 10 years ago and the building was torn down. It was a treasure trove of hand tools that were well built.
Just found this link telling the companies history of tool making. Interesting reading....

Snap-On does rebadge a good bit of stuff, especially under the 'blue-point' brand.

Likely those are actually made by Klien, or Sunex, or Astro... and are re-badged and sold by a dozen other companies. ;)

Uh, if you say so... Ever seen them both in person? I have. Used both, too. Even if the handles did look similar and feel & wear similar... the blade on the Craftsman is nowhere near the toughness of the Snappy's.

Does Snap On really make the screwdrivers or are they from a vendor who make it for both Snap On and Craftsman ...

That would be news to me, although these days are strange indeed. Most peculiar, even.

Believe me, when it comes to any hand tools, and Snap-On branded air tools, Snap on is made BY SNAP-ON. I'm sure a lot of this comes from speculating people who would love to think their Craftsman Pro stuff is equal to Snappy's, but the screwdrivers, at least... not even close.

Honestly, you people read way too much into the few re-badged snap-on tools. Most of their blue-point stuff is taiwan stuff that isn't exclusively contracted to them, yes. But the vast majority of snap-on tools are actually made by them. It's one of the few companies left where that's the case. :(

I agree to a point. Blue Point is NOT Snap On, I wish everyone would stop referring to it AS Snap On, there IS a difference. NEXT, yes Snap On has a few tools that they do not make themselves, and my Snap On guy will tell me that where it is made and by whom. A good example of this are the long handle adjustable Snap On Pliers. GREAT For front end alignments, not made in the USA, they are made in Germany or Switzerland (I honestly Can't remember) BUT they carry the SNAP ON NAME so they have to stand up to the SNAP ON Standards.

Anyone that compares Snap On to Craftsman has either not used any new snap on tools or they are comparing tools from the 60's to ergonomic tools of the 90's+. End of story. Flank Drive Plus is real, it works, and No other company has come close to successfully duplicating a WORKING system as good. Believe me, if I could find better tools for less money, I would buy them because I’m not made of money. As for less frequently used tools, that you don't want to spend a ton of money on because they only get used 1 time a year, hey, craftsman pro is in my box too. I use all the brands, and I understand why there is a difference, what the differences are, and I choose my tools not on the name alone, but on the intended use per dollar formula.

In the end, I guess everyone on the top has their share of smack talkers. Don’t believe the hype, check it out for yourself. If you can’t see, feel, tell a difference, buy something else.

I've never seen any snappy's like that either. They aren't in the new catalog #800, and a lookup of the part number on snap-on's website didn't show any results. They look like Snap-On packaging and everything, but I sure haven't seen any like them. I did a google of the part number, most of all the hits were ebay, one was a screwdriver-sets.com address, one was everyday low prices. com and the other was fieldscars .com. Of course there were omitted results, but normally they're extremely similar to the originals. I don't know what to make of it.

Very interesting. To think these would be flooding eBay before being in the catalog or available on the truck would be unprecedented?

Correct me if I am wrong.

I wonder. Same here: Numbers come up dry, and they don't exist in the catalog... I definitely wouldn't buy 'em until I knew for sure they weren't Chinese impostors.

OT...Completely unrelated, but interesting, nonetheless...from the IRS website:

"On December 14, 2006, in Columbus, GA, Jane Wood Brooks was sentenced to 46 months in prison and ordered to pay $1,358,662 in restitution. Brooks pleaded guilty in August 2006 to mail fraud and money laundering charges. According to court documents, Brooks served in the position as controller for BACHO North American, a division of Snap-On Tools. Among her other responsibilities, Brooks had the authority to request and issue checks for payments to vendors and for other services related to the business. Brooks devised a scheme to defraud BACHO of money whereas she issued a series of forty BACHO checks made payable to "MBN" in amounts from $9,000 to $33,987. After receiving the checks, Brooks mailed them, or caused them to be mailed, to a credit card company called MBNA in Wilmington, Delaware, where Brooks maintained an account. The MBNA checks were credited to her account. Any money in excess of credit card charges was transferred to Brooks' personal checking account. Brooks then used that money to purchase real property and consumer items. The total loss to BACHO was documented at approximately $1,462,797."

Ouch ... Guess she didn't know when to quit - small amount of money would not have been noticed but $1,462,797 will be noticed.

On another note, does anyone have any metric Bahco sockets; looks like everything is SAE .. :)

For the Snap-On and Blue Point ratcheting combination wrenches, they all come out of the same factory in Taiwan. They just brand certain models Snap-On and others Blue Point. Not a terrible product either way, but not significantly better than Stanley or Craftsman versions.

I always thought it kind of funny that Snap-On's "Instinct" is such a good copy of the Craftsman Pro. I know the blades are better in the Snap-On but those handles are almost ringers. I still have a few of the Triangle handle Snap-Ons from the early 80's

I always thought that if it said "snap on" on it it was made by snap on but not true, the cable hose clamp pliers are identical to mayhew's.
