I had to warrantee an instinct screwdriver today. Bad heat treat. I am wondering if the handle can be removed to repurpose. I don't want to ruin it if it won't come off as in that case I will grind it into something else.

Yes. Find a washer that will fit over the shank and drop it on. The grab the shank in a vise, and use prybars between the vise jaws and the washer to pull the shank out. The washer is optional, but prying on the plastic will mar it.

This thread is about ratchets, BUT they use repurposed screwdriver handles and buried in it are techniques to remove those handles.

Removing the old shank and installing a new one is how Snap on typically warranties a broken screwdriver tip. I remember seeing my Snap on guy hooking up the screwdriver to a vice and hammering the two pieces apart and together. Though if you are modding it, the part of the shank that goes into the handle will have to be of a similar design.

I repurpose all of SO's screwdrivers whether its comfort grip or hard handles everyday - into pry bars.

How did you warranty it without sending it or giving it to your dealer? Just curious.
