Snap on has this 32 piece set for 77 dollars brand new off the website. They look rather short, or stubby, which doesn't really bug me. Does anyone have any experience with this set? Are the bits long enough to where if they break, you will still have enough room to grind them down to be a regular hex bit?

It just seems like a really fair price considering it's a 32 piece brand new for 77 bucks

Any info on these would be awesome, or if you guys recommend another set please let me know. Thanks

That set is VIM Tools' VIS112 rebranded. If you want it, buy it from tooltopia.com for $37 unless you're willing to pay $40 extra to have a red case instead of a black case.

Oh man that's too bad, thanks for the info though.

What would you guys recommend for a good high quality hex set? Either 1/4" or 3/8

I saw Williams had a decent looking set, what else you guys got for me??

The VIM stuff is very good quality. They've been a supplier to Snap-On for quite some time. I prefer some of their stuff over anything else I've seen (their half-cut Torx bits, for example). So it's not "too bad" unless you pay Snap-On's markup. Very good stuff, I just don't pay extra for it.

So is this set too stubby to turn into a regular hex bit if they break?

Or better yet do they come with the snap on warranty?

I don't have that particular set, but in general bits of this type aren't going to be turned into useful regular hex bits if you break one.

I don't understand your question about warranty. It's like asking if Ford will warranty your Chrysler.

I believe Snap-On considers Blue-Point labelled hex bits as consumables (someone correct me if I'm wrong). So they'll warranty against defects in workmanship and materials, but not against abuse and long-term wear.

Not really, I dont know why you would think that. I mean, why wouldnt snap on warranty a snap on product? Im not asking if they will warranty a mac product.

If the ball hex breaks at the thinnest point, where the ball meets the hex, wouldnt that fall under a warranty.

I realize they wont warranty expendable items, like drill bits etc.

just picked that set up last week (didn't pay $77 for it though!). it seems like a nice set. I bought it because my bike is full of hex fasteners and my GTI is full of torx and being able to use a ratcheting screwdriver or bit driver on them is really handy. I didn't even think to ask about warranty but I've never heard of anyone having issues on this truck with warrantying Blue Point. not sure about if it's considered a consumable or not though. I'd say if it wasn't old and rusted and broke they'd warranty it but AFAIK, those bits aren't sold separately so warranty could in fact end up being an issue.
but yeah, if I'd have known they were rebranded VIM, I'd have probably gotten those.
