Just another ebay clown trying to capitalize on Snap-Ons discontinuation (for the most part) of hard handle ratchets (again).

Personal opinion: The discontinuation is because they're trying to force the 100t "Cynergy" ratchets that no one wants on us, rather than admit they might have been wrong. Jokes on them, I'm not buying any, nor will I. I have enough hard handle Dual80s to last me the rest of my wrenching life. According to my dealer, effectively no one else is buying them either.
I'm trying to get to that point myself.

It's the teal color, so it's extra rare for collectors. Understood the "hoarding" or "collecting" of tools. But never as "works of art" or that the tools will "go up in value". They are tools to be used.

Kind of like Pokemon cards, you got to collect all the colors. But in other collecting hobbies like trading cards, coins, vide games, there are grading systems, and you can get the slabbed and encapsulated in plastic and assigned an overall numerical grade based on the wear of the item. But on tools... why spend 18k on them to collect them all and not use them, hold onto them and hope they go up in value? Maybe I should start a tool grading company lol.

I always find it funny (and I’m guilty of this, too, and not just with tools) that when something is discontinued because it didn’t sell, everyone all of a sudden wants it.

May boil down to Tool Users VS Tool Collectors. I am more of a Tool User that has better uses for my tool money: and own no such thing as a "Tool Collection"

I put that set on my watch list... I was just curious whether they would offer a discount...

...and they just did! I can buy it now for $16,999.95...!

Tempting, isn't it?

If I find a hard handled ratchet I want that's not already in orange, I have the factory Snap-On SPP1710 handle replacement machine, so I remove the non-orange hard handle and trade it for a factory new orange hard handle with my dealer.
Isn't that what the auctioneer did to make his set?
Any of you guys into vintage ratchets?
I'll have to send that to Dad so he can reevaluate the value of his hand-me-downs vs. his antique car.
in like 1987
When did the "current" hard handle like the OP real picture start?

Yes. Many of the ratchets listed are in a configuration that are not original, such as the many 3/8" drives in 1/4" heads and likewise, the bit driver heads that were not offered from the factory. Now, some of there were offered, but he has many configurations that he made himself. Also you can tell that the handle of the FHKFD80A is not original since that ratchet is a stubby, there is nowhere to put the Snap-On model number, so for those ratchets, the model number was printed on the back side of the handle. It's not there on this ratchet.
