Snap-on side cutters - E707BCG vs E709BCG

Considering purchase of Snap-on side cutters, either E707BCG or E709BCG. I already have the E710BCG. Snap-on Web site says E707BCG is 4 3/8" while E709BCG is 4 7/16". Both cutters are 1/16" tip, tapered and flush cutters. Price of E707BCG is $68.50 while E709BCG is $61.25.

Anyone have these and know other differences? Unsure why Snap-on sells cutters with only 1/16" length difference yet $7.25 price difference. Photos look similar.

Those mini electrical cutters have ratings for wire gauge. I would recommend getting the 3 piece electrical pliers set. Whichever cutter comes in that is the more mainstream one.

Can't comment on the 707 as I do not own, but the 709 I have two pair. One at work, and one at hobby shop. Use them to flush cut zip ties, and nothing else really. They do a very good job at flush cutting zip ties (wire ties, tie wraps, etc--whatever the nomenclature is in your area).

NOTHING pisses me off more than getting my arms (I've worn short sleeves my whole career) scratched up until I'm bleeding because someone (or manufacturer--workhorse, freightliner) did not flush cut their zip ties.

From the pictures on the Snap-on website it looks like the E707BCG pliers are cut down along the top of the cutting head so the cutters can fit into tighter places.

Thats why they are called "tapered."

After reexamining the Snap-on Web site and catalog photos I believe Jeremy V is correct. The difference between E707BCG and E709BCG is the relief cut. Snap-on order placed last night.

I ordered the E709BCG because I did not feel that I would need the relief feature of the E707BCG. In addition, to satisfy my OCD , the E709BCG will match the E710BCG I already have. Finally, the E709BCG should be a bit stronger.

Who knows... I may get the E707BCG later. I'm also interested in Tronex and the photos rekindled an interest.

Actually I would have looked at Tronex again for this purchase but I was having some difficulty locating a Tronex stocking supplier. That is one thing I like about Snap-on - online ordering, customer service a phone call away and delivery to my door.

I also ordered another TMXM17 adapter like the attached photo. That ****** has been handy for times I want a magnetic socket without the hassle of magnets, tape or inserts that some folks use.

UPDATE to an old thread....we have probably 24 pair of E709BCG cutters here at work, our guys cut enough wire and ties that they dull a pair in about 6 weeks. We originally bought Snap On because of the quality, feel, and the fact they replaced them when dull. Just yesterday, we presented a dull pair to our SO truck and he gave us some crappy replacement that said "made in Spain" on them. Much more force required to cut, feel is bad. Looks like our reason to buy SO is gone!!!

We originally bought Snap On because of the quality, feel, and the fact they replaced them when dull. That is BS. I'd call SO direct. I have only used them once, but they were great over the phone.

Good suggestion Mike in DE, will do that. The So cutters have served us great....we wouldn't mine paying a resharpening charge....but buy a new pair each time they dull?? UGH

Well, Snap On has apparently discontinued the E709BCG cutters....as I said earlier. Snap On removed the part number from their web site. Gone.... Does anyone know who makes the Snap On cutters? All the replacements **** big time...if you cut wire all day, the cutter really does make a difference. We may have 6-8 pairs left of new ones but a new pair lasts only a couple of months before they dull.

I'm guessing the new, Spanish, ones are made by Lindstrom who got bought by Snap-on a few years back. They used to be good cutters back when they were made in Sweden.........................

The ones made in Spain are terrible. I bought the 3-piece combo set last year and got rid of them all. The USA ones made by snap-on are way better.

Just look at Swanstrom, Tronex, Knipex, Erem, schmitz, etc. There are so many other better options out there. You should look into carbide tipped too.
