anyone got the part number for the sk 3/8 socket set case that holds both deep,short metric and sae sockets ?

I would guess Snap-On since I don't think S-K has part #'s for their cases or sells them empty.

Yep, my mistake, I don't think Snap-On has a 3/8" set that has sae and metric, shallow and deep in a plastic case.

Even if they did, it might now work for them because for what ever reason, there doesn't seem to be any standard lengths for 3/8" sockets?
1/4" seems to be fairly standard. I have a Mac case similar to the Snappy one posted above and I've used it to hold Mac, SnapOn and Craftsman 1/4" sockets and all seem to fit fine.
3/8" in a whole another story. Each manufacture seems to pick their own size, especially for the deeps. I have some Wright 3/8" sockets and there is no uniformity. For instance my Wright 9 & 10mm deep sockets are taller then my Wright 8 and 11mm socket even through based on part # they are all part of the same series.
I also have a Mac 3/8" case and lost the 14mm out of it. I played hell finding another socket that would fit into it.

You didn't mention plastic or metal but Williams makes some metal boxes of different dimensions in the $20 range that are for socket/ratchet set apps. Go to : http://toolsource.com and look for TB-101 or TB-102.
